Catering ordering software for restaurants, scored

These six platforms sell online catering ordering to US restaurants as part of their ordering product. They are scored on the cost to start, the fees on catering orders, the contract, POS links and whether they are sold to single independent restaurants. Two publish a plan price that includes catering, and only one says its online catering is free of commission.

The list

Catering ordering software for restaurants, scored

1

1. Owner.com

Independent US and Canadian restaurants that want catering ordering inside a managed website, ordering and marketing plan, billed month to month.

Both of Owner.com's plans include the ordering website, a branded iOS and Android app, loyalty, automated marketing and catering ordering. Flexible is $249 a month plus a 5% restaurant fee per order; Flat Rate is $499 a month with no restaurant fee. Guests pay a 5% order support fee on both plans.

Price
From $249/mo
Commission
5% restaurant fee per order on Flexible; none on Flat Rate. On both plans guests pay a 5% order support fee.
Online payments
Guests pay online by card at checkout; Owner collects the payment on the restaurant's behalf, through the restaurant's own Stripe account (a separate one per location) or through Owner Payments, deducts its transaction and delivery fees, and pays out the rest. On Owner Payments, payouts are daily, two business days after the sale. Orders at US restaurants are charged in USD and at Canadian restaurants in CAD.

Includes: Own ordering website · Pickup · Delivery orders · Your own drivers · Scheduled orders · Online payments · POS · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Branded app · Delivery-app integration · Multiple locations

  • Both plans include the ordering website, a branded iOS and Android app, loyalty, automated marketing, catering ordering, setup and migration, chargeback protection and 24/7 support; the Flat Rate plan ($499 a month, C$699 in Canada) adds no per-order restaurant fee (Owner pricing pages).
  • Month-to-month billing with no long-term contract and no cancellation fees (Owner pricing page and Restaurant Participation Agreement).
  • Online orders can go straight into an existing POS at no extra charge (native Clover integration; connections to Toast, Square, Lightspeed and more) or onto an Owner tablet or printer, and DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub orders can be brought into the Owner dashboard (Owner POS integrations page and help centre).
  • The cheapest plan costs $249 a month plus 5% of every order, guests pay a 5% order support fee on both plans, and Owner keeps 5% of each gift card sale (Owner pricing page and Restaurant Participation Agreement).
  • Design control is limited on purpose: Owner's CEO writes on the pricing page that restaurants give up some control over how their online presence looks in exchange for Owner's proven system.
  • Only for restaurants in the US and Canada, and text-message marketing is not yet available in Canada (Owner Platform Terms and Canada pricing page).

2. Popmenu

US, UK and Canadian restaurants that want their website, marketing, direct ordering and catering from one vendor and can pay $159 a month or more.

Popmenu sells SEO websites, marketing and reservations, with an online ordering add-on that covers pickup, delivery, dine-in QR ordering and catering. Plans start at $159 a month prepaid annually ($179 month to month); the online ordering and catering add-on price is not published, and Popmenu charges a flat $1.00 per online order. Orders go straight into Toast, Square, Clover and other POS systems.

Price
From $159/mo
Commission
No percentage of sales, but a flat $1.00 per online order, which the restaurant can pass to the guest at checkout or absorb (Popmenu pricing FAQ; the online ordering savings calculator also uses a $1 per order fee)
Online payments
Guests pay online through the restaurant's existing processor. Popmenu's integrations page lists Stripe, Square, Toast, NCR Voyix, Genius, Everyware and Authorize.net for payments. Online orders go straight into Toast, Square, NCR Voyix, Clover, SpotOn or Genius POS, or through Deliverect.

Includes: Own ordering website · QR table ordering · Pickup · Delivery orders · Your own drivers · Scheduled orders · Online payments · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Branded app · Delivery-app integration · Multiple locations · Reservations

  • No percentage of sales on direct online orders. Popmenu charges a flat $1.00 per order instead, and the restaurant can pass it to the guest at checkout (pricing FAQ). Orders go straight into Toast, Square, NCR Voyix, Clover, SpotOn or Genius POS (POS integrations page).
  • Orders from DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and the restaurant's own site arrive on one tablet. Delivery can use the restaurant's own staff or DoorDash Drive drivers for a flat fee instead of a commission (order aggregation page, online ordering pages, pricing page).
  • Built-in points loyalty (1 point per $1 by default) works on the website, in the branded app and in-store through Toast POS. Restaurants can import members from their old loyalty provider, and Square Loyalty points also work on Popmenu orders (Loyalty page).
  • No free plan. The cheapest plan (Starter) costs $159 a month paid a year up front, or $179 month to month. Online ordering & catering is a paid add-on on every plan, and its price is not published (pricing page).
  • Every online order costs $1.00 on top of the subscription, paid by the restaurant or passed on to the guest (pricing FAQ).
  • Every plan is sold through a booked demo, with no self-serve sign-up. Popmenu says only that it 'may provide a free trial for certain offerings' (pricing page).

3. ChowNow

Independent US and Canadian restaurants that want a done-for-you ordering website, branded app and catering for a flat monthly fee.

ChowNow's platform includes a commission-free ordering website, branded apps and catering. Launch is $229 a month on an annual term or $249 billed monthly, plus a $119–$499 setup fee and 2.95% + $0.29 per transaction, and catering orders through the restaurant's direct channel carry a 5% fee. It connects to more than 20 POS systems, including Toast, Square and Clover.

Diners pay online through ChowNow, which charges the restaurant 2.95% + $0.29 per transaction, covers card fraud and chargebacks, and pays out the next business day. ChowNow's diner terms mention Apple Pay and Google Pay. The underlying card processor is not named.

Includes: Own ordering website · QR table ordering · Pickup · Delivery orders · Your own drivers · Scheduled orders · Online payments · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Branded app · Delivery-app integration · Multiple locations

  • No commission on orders from the restaurant's own website, branded app or the ChowNow Marketplace; the restaurant pays a flat monthly fee plus card processing (Direct Online Ordering and Marketplace pages).
  • Every plan includes branded iOS and Android apps that ChowNow builds, publishes and maintains (only Apple's $99 yearly developer fee is extra), plus full card fraud and chargeback protection (Branded Mobile Apps page, pricing page).
  • Flex Delivery sends orders to Uber Direct or DoorDash Drive drivers for a flat $7.98 per order, up to 10 miles where Uber is available (8 miles with DoorDash Drive), alongside or instead of the restaurant's own drivers (Flex Delivery page, pricing page).
  • No free plan: the cheapest plan (Launch) is $229 a month on an annual term or $249 billed monthly, plus a $119–$499 setup fee. In April 2026 the cheapest ordering plan (Pro) was $199 a month on an annual term, $229 monthly (pricing page, archived pricing pages).
  • On top of the subscription: 2.95% + $0.29 per card transaction, $250–$420 for a printer and a 5% fee on every catering order (pricing page, ChowNow FAQ).
  • Orders from ChowNow's discovery listings (Order Better Network) carry a fee that is not published; ChowNow's Profit Protector offsets it by raising menu prices on those orders (Profit Protector support article, pricing FAQ).

4. BentoBox

US table-service and counter-service restaurants already on Clover POS that want a designed website with ordering, catering, gift cards and reservations from one vendor.

BentoBox's FAQ says online catering is free of commission, and the same vendor covers the website, takeout and delivery, QR order and pay, gift cards and reservations. It has never published prices: plans are quoted, billed monthly or 12 months upfront for 10% off. On 19 October 2026 its pricing page says it is only available to Clover POS customers.

  • Only for Clover POS customers now (19 October 2026): restaurants on Toast, Square or another POS cannot sign up (BentoBox pricing and home pages).

5. Lunchbox

US multi-location restaurant chains that want branded web and app ordering, B2B catering and loyalty on one platform and can sign an enterprise agreement.

Lunchbox sells branded web and app ordering, B2B catering, loyalty and gift cards and a marketing CRM to restaurant chains, connected to the restaurant's POS. Enterprise pricing is quoted per brand in a service order; a separate plan for 1–2 locations is described as free, but its fees are not set out.

Not published. The SMB plan says 'Ditch the fees and protect your margins'; enterprise fees are set in each service order.
Online payments
Apple Pay and Google Pay at checkout (web and app ordering pages); processors named in the agreement are Stripe and ParTech.

Includes: Own ordering website · Pickup · Delivery orders · Scheduled orders · Online payments · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Branded app · Delivery-app integration · Multiple locations

  • Branded web ordering and a native app built to the brand, with pickup or delivery, ASAP or scheduled orders, guest checkout and Apple and Google Pay (web ordering and app ordering pages).
  • Loyalty with tiered, spend-and-get and bankable points programs, plus e-gift cards and subscriptions; it can also connect to Punchh or Paytronix (loyalty page).
  • Catering, third-party order aggregation and a dispute manager sit on the same platform, and it says it integrates with every major POS (home page).
  • No enterprise prices are published; fees are set per brand in a service order after a demo (home page and client services agreement).
  • Enterprise terms renew automatically for the same length unless you give 60 days notice, and prepaid fees are not refunded (client services agreement).
  • Renewal prices can rise with 90 days notice (client services agreement).

6. Olo

US restaurant chains with 5 or more locations that want a white-label ordering platform with catering and deep POS, delivery and marketplace integrations.

Olo's platform covers a white-label website and apps, QR table ordering, catering, phone orders, payments and loyalty. It publishes no price list: contracts pay a fixed monthly fee, some with an order allowance and a fee for each extra order, and implementation is a fixed fee.

Online payments
Olo Pay is Olo's own payment platform for online and in-store card payments, with Apple Pay and Google Pay, EMV payment terminals and built-in fraud screening (Olo Pay page). Olo is a payment facilitator and relies on a limited number of third-party processors that it does not name. In its FY2024 annual report, Olo Pay was available only to brands using Olo's Ordering module. The platform also integrates with other payment processors.

Includes: Own ordering website · QR table ordering · Pickup · Delivery orders · Your own drivers · Scheduled orders · Online payments · Loyalty · Marketing tools · Branded app · Delivery-app integration · Multiple locations · Reservations

  • No percentage commission: Olo charges subscription fees, markets Dispatch direct delivery as 'pay zero commissions' and makes orders through its new Olo App commission-free. Restaurants keep full ownership of their guest data (Ordering, Rails and Olo Network pages; FY2024 10-K).
  • Built for scale: Olo says it runs more than 3.5 million orders a day for 800+ brands at about 90,000 locations, with 99.99% uptime (Ordering and About pages).
  • Connects to more than 400 technology partners, including the POS a chain already uses. Rails brings orders from 15+ delivery marketplaces into the POS, and Dispatch sends direct deliveries to 27+ courier companies or the brand's own drivers (Ordering, Rails and Dispatch pages; FY2024 10-K).
  • No public prices and no self-serve signup: everything goes through a demo, and contracts usually run three years or longer, renew automatically, and need 90 days' notice to end (Olo site; FY2024 10-K).
  • Aimed at chains, not single restaurants: Olo groups its customers as Enterprise (100+ locations) and Emerging Enterprise (5–99 locations) (FY2024 10-K).
  • No POS of its own, so restaurants still need and pay for a separate POS. Restaurant Business calls the POS 'the most obvious gap' in Olo's lineup, and Olo had no loyalty product of its own until it bought Spendgo in December 2025 (Restaurant Business, January 2026).

How we scored them

Every score, so you can check the order.

Ranked by total score. Popmenu, ChowNow and BentoBox tie on 6; ties are broken by the lowest published starting price (Popmenu $159, ChowNow $229, BentoBox none), and Lunchbox and Olo tie on 3, broken by whether a free plan is described (Lunchbox). Menuthere is not ranked because it has no catering module.

When a rival is the better choice

Pick another system over Menuthere if…

  • Owner.com: You want catering, the website, app, loyalty and marketing set up and run for you, month to month, and your guests accept a 5% order support fee.
  • Popmenu: Your website and marketing matter as much as catering orders, and you want orders to land in Toast, Square or Clover.
  • ChowNow: You want ChowNow's team to set up the menu, website and POS link, and a 5% fee on catering orders is acceptable for your volume.
  • BentoBox: You already run Clover POS and want commission-free catering orders on a designed website from one vendor.
  • Lunchbox: You run several locations and want B2B catering, loyalty and app ordering on one enterprise platform tied to your POS.
  • Olo: You are a chain of five or more locations that needs catering in the same enterprise ordering stack as your web, app and marketplace orders.

How we chose them

What put a system on this list.

  • A system qualifies if its dated profile on Menuthere names catering ordering as part of its product, it is active, and it serves restaurants in the US. Menufy is left out because its own help centre says it does not take online catering orders.
  • Each system is scored on five criteria worth up to 2 points each (10 in all). The rubric and every score are in the table above, and each point comes from a fact in the system's profile. Card processing is left out because every system charges it.
  • Menuthere, which publishes this list, is not ranked. It takes scheduled pre-orders with the notice you set (Lite, $17 a month, 0% commission) and has a free catering quote maker and catering price calculator, but no catering module: no headcount, deposit or invoice-terms flow.
  • Prices are each company's own published prices on the date on its profile. Where a company publishes no price, the table shows a dash.
  • Nobody paid to be on this list. Prices change: check each company's own page before you sign.

Questions

Answered, plainly.

It lets customers order a catering menu online, usually days ahead, for pickup or delivery, as part of a restaurant's own ordering website. All six systems here name catering ordering as part of their ordering product; how much they add for catering, such as menus by headcount or order lead times, differs and is not set out the same way on every company's site.

Owner.com ($249 a month plus a 5% restaurant fee, or $499 flat) and ChowNow (Launch from $229 a month on an annual term) publish plan prices that include catering. Popmenu publishes its website plans from $159 a month but not the price of its online ordering and catering add-on. BentoBox, Lunchbox and Olo quote prices.

On some systems, yes. ChowNow charges 5% per catering order placed through the restaurant's direct channel. Owner.com's guests pay a 5% order support fee on every order, and its Flexible plan adds a 5% restaurant fee. Popmenu charges $1.00 per online order. BentoBox's FAQ says online catering is free of commission.

Owner.com, Popmenu and ChowNow are sold to single independent restaurants; BentoBox is sold only to Clover POS customers; Lunchbox and Olo are aimed at chains. If you mainly take trays and boxed lunches ordered a day ahead, an ordering page with scheduled pre-orders may be enough, and costs far less.

Menuthere publishes this list and takes scheduled pre-orders with the notice you set, on Lite at $17 a month with 0% commission, plus a free catering quote maker and price calculator. It has no catering module with headcounts, deposits or invoice terms, so it doesn't meet this list's rule.
