Who pays for refunds and missing or wrong items on Zomato?
Updated 7 October 2026
You do when the problem is yours. Zomato can charge you for refunds caused by frequent rejections or time-outs, slow acceptance or handover, poor food, missing or wrong items or poor packaging; those orders go unpaid or are clawed back from later payouts.
- Zomato calls refund-causing orders “Problem Orders”: they are not paid, or the amount is taken from your future payouts.
- Named causes: frequent rejection or time-out, delay in accepting or handing over, poor food, missing or incorrect items, poor packaging.
- Refund charges are one of the fees in the contract, at rates set in your Form; see Zomato commission in India.
- Wrong orders and food-quality problems also earn no cancellation compensation under Zomato's compensation policy.
- Packing in single-use plastic lets Zomato cancel the order and recover the rider's pay and refunds from you.
