Website builder or restaurant ordering system: which should I choose?
Updated 7 October 2026
A builder can take food orders, but a restaurant system is built for them. Builders often need a paid plan or add-on, with payment fees on top. Restaurant systems come set up for menus, order types and kitchen alerts.
- Wix: you must upgrade the site to accept online orders and payments, though you can show the menu without a plan.
- Squarespace: ordering runs through extensions or an Order Now link to another service. Extensions fall outside Squarespace support.
- Shopify: a third-party payment provider adds a fee, from 2% on Basic down to 0.2% on Plus.
- WooCommerce: no platform fee or revenue share, but you pay for hosting, paid extensions and payment processing.
