How do I get a customer's permission before sending WhatsApp offers?
Updated 11 October 2026
WhatsApp requires opt-in before you message people. It must clearly say the person agrees to hear from your business, name your business, and follow local law. It does not have to be on WhatsApp.
- Where: SMS, your website, a phone menu, or in person or on paper all count as opt-in methods.
- What to say: state clearly that the person is opting in to messages, and name your restaurant.
- Separate by type: ask separately for order updates and for offers, so fewer people block you.
- Opt-out: tell people how to stop offers, and honour every request to block or opt out.
- Local law: you are responsible for following the laws that apply to your messages.
