A cake website and order form for UK home bakers
Updated 19 October 2026
A cake website with a built-in order form lets customers choose the cake, the size, the flavour and the collection date, and pay, without twenty messages back and forth. Menuthere gives UK home bakers and cake decorators a free cake website that takes orders. You set how much notice you need. Orders arrive in one place, with 0% commission, and card payments go to your own account.

Who this is for
- Home bakers selling birthday cakes, cupcakes and brownie boxes from their kitchen.
- Cake decorators who make custom and celebration cakes to order.
- Side-hustle bakers who sell a few cakes a week around a day job.
- Market and Instagram sellers who want an order link in their bio.
If you have a shop, see bakery software for UK bakeries instead.
Why home bakers outgrow DMs
Most cake businesses start on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. It works, until it doesn't.
- The same questions every day: "How much is a 6-inch?" "Do you do vegan?" "Are you free on the 14th?"
- Orders buried in three apps.
- Dates and spellings copied by hand.
- People who book, then vanish before paying.
A cake order form fixes this. The customer fills in the details. You get one clean order.
Three ways to take cake orders, from free to full
| Option | Cost | Best for | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free WhatsApp order page | Free, no order limit | Testing the idea | Menu with prices and sizes, a "for which day?" date picker with your earliest day, a closing date for pre-orders, your own questions (flavour, message, guests). The order opens in WhatsApp ready to send. No dashboard |
| Menuthere Free store | US$0, 50 orders a month | A few cakes a week | Cake website, order dashboard and partner app, collection or delivery, live order status for customers, a note box for cake messages. Customers write the date in the note. Pay on collection, bank transfer or your payment link |
| Menuthere Lite | US$17 a month (billed in US dollars; your bank converts it), 7-day free trial (card needed to start; nothing charged until it ends) | A real cake business | Unlimited orders, a date picker with minimum notice and a booking window, advance-notice cakes, card payments to your own Stripe account, your own domain, no Menuthere badge |
Automatic WhatsApp order updates on your own number are on Pro (US$39 a month, also with a 7-day free trial). Meta bills your own WhatsApp account per message, and Menuthere adds no markup. See WhatsApp ordering.
The cake order form: what customers fill in
Your cake website works as a cake order form. Here is how each detail is captured.
| Detail | How it works in Menuthere |
|---|---|
| Cake and size | Each cake has its own sizes and prices, such as 6", 8" and 10" |
| Flavour and filling | Option groups, free or with an extra charge |
| Extras | Add-ons such as candles, a topper or a photo print |
| Message and colours | The note box at checkout. Say what to include in the item description |
| Collection or delivery date | Date and time picker at checkout (Lite). Customers can only pick dates after your notice period |
| Reference photo | Customers cannot upload a photo on the site. Ask them to send it on WhatsApp |
| Allergens and dietary needs | Tag any of the 14 allergens, calories and a halal mark on each cake (every plan). Customers see them when they open the cake. "Egg-free" or "vegan" requests go in the order note |
| Payment | Card on Lite. Payment link, bank transfer or pay on collection on Free |
Prefer paper? Our free cake order form template gives you a printable version. The online form saves you typing it all up.
Collection dates and minimum notice
Home bakers bake to order, not ASAP. On Lite you control the calendar.
- Minimum notice. For example, 3 days, so nobody books a birthday cake for tomorrow.
- Booking window. For example, no more than 4 weeks ahead.
- Advance-notice cakes. Tick the cakes that must be booked ahead and the days you bake them, such as Fridays only. Those cakes are ordered on their own.
- Collection slots. Set the times people can collect, such as Saturday 10am to 1pm.
- Pre-orders while you are closed. Customers can book at midnight for a slot inside your hours.
See pre-orders and collection slots.
Deposits for custom cakes
Many UK cake makers take a deposit on custom cakes, with the balance before or on collection. Menuthere takes full payment online and doesn't take deposits at checkout, so you have two options.
- Take full payment at checkout for standard cakes. Simple, and no-shows stop.
- For a big custom cake, send a Stripe payment link for the deposit. Take the balance on collection or by a second link.
Put your cancellation terms in the cake description. For example: "Deposit is non-refundable within 14 days of collection." Then they are agreed before payment.
Price your cakes before you list them
Many home bakers undercharge. Count ingredients, boxes, boards, your hours and your gas and electric. Our free cake price calculator does the sums and makes a price list image for Instagram. It picks £ for UK visitors.
What it costs compared with selling through apps
Take a home baker who sells 30 cakes a month at £55. That is £1,650.
| Way to sell | Platform fee | Card fees | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| A delivery app at 30% + VAT, such as Uber Eats when it delivers (if they accept you) | £495.00 + £99.00 VAT | included | £594.00 |
| Menuthere Free + Stripe payment links | US$0 | £30.75 (1.5% + 20p) | £30.75 |
| Menuthere Lite + Stripe checkout | US$17 | £30.75 | £30.75 + US$17 |
| Bank transfer on Menuthere Free | US$0 | £0 | £0 |
If you are not VAT-registered, you cannot reclaim the VAT on app fees, so it is a real cost. Deliveroo also needs a food hygiene rating of at least 2, and we couldn't find a published UK home-kitchen policy from the big apps. See can I sell on Deliveroo from home.
Other tools exist. FoodCore (from £25 a month, read 11 Oct 2026) focuses on recipe costing, labels and allergen tracking. It is a good fit if costing and labels are your main headache. Menuthere's job is the customer side: the website, the order form, dates and payment. Some bakers use both.
UK rules for selling cakes from home
You can sell cakes from home in the UK, but you must follow food law. These are the basics. Our guide to starting a cake business from home goes deeper.
- Register with your council at least 28 days before you start selling (England, Wales and Northern Ireland). It is free and cannot be refused. This applies to home and online businesses too.
- Expect an inspection and a food hygiene rating. Your kitchen gets rated from 0 to 5. Aim for 5 and show it on your website.
- Get hygiene training. The law says food handlers must be trained or supervised. A Level 2 food hygiene certificate is the usual way to show it, though the law does not name a specific course.
- Write down your food safety steps. The FSA's Safer Food, Better Business pack is a free way to do this in England and Wales. Northern Ireland uses Safe Catering, and Scotland uses CookSafe.
- Allergens. For online orders, give the 14 allergens before the customer buys and again on collection. On Menuthere, tag the allergens on each cake (every plan) and customers see them before they order. Made-to-order cakes are not PPDS, so Natasha's Law labels are not needed for them. Bakes you wrap at home and sell from a market stall are PPDS and need a full label. Bakes you supply wrapped to someone else's shop need a full label too. Make a chart with our allergen matrix maker.
- Tell your mortgage lender or landlord, and your home insurer. Home insurance may not cover your business. Ask an insurer about public liability and product liability cover.
- Tell HMRC. If your trading income goes over £1,000 in a tax year (the trading allowance), register for Self Assessment by 5 October after that tax year. VAT only applies once your turnover passes the threshold (£90,000 since April 2024).
Set up your cake website in an evening
- Sign up with your email. Add your bakery name and logo.
- Add your cakes with photos, sizes and flavours. Or import from a photo or PDF of your price list.
- Tag allergens (and calories, if you like) on each cake, and add your notice and refund terms to its description.
- Choose collection, delivery or both. Set a delivery radius and fee if you deliver.
- Choose payment: bank transfer and pay on collection on Free, or Stripe card payments on Lite.
- Put the link everywhere: Instagram bio, Facebook page, WhatsApp status and a QR code on your cake boxes.
Free for 50 orders a month, 0% commission, no contract. Need dates and card payments? a card is needed to start, and nothing is charged until the trial ends.
FAQs
Can I make a cake website for free?
Yes. Menuthere's Free plan gives you a cake website with ordering for up to 50 orders a month, with no commission. The free WhatsApp order page has no order limit but no dashboard.
What should a cake order form include?
Cake, size, flavour, filling, message, colours, collection date and time, allergies, contact number and how they will pay. Add your notice period and cancellation terms.
Can customers pick a collection date?
Yes. On Lite, customers choose a date and time at checkout, after your minimum notice. On the Free store, they write the date in the note. The free WhatsApp order page also has a date picker.
Can I take a deposit for a custom cake?
Menuthere takes full payment by card on Lite. For a deposit, send a Stripe payment link and take the balance on collection.
Do I need to register to sell cakes from home?
Yes. Register with your local council at least 28 days before you start. It is free. The council may inspect you and give you a food hygiene rating.
Do I need a Natasha's Law label on my cakes?
Not for cakes made to order, as they are packed after the customer orders. Pre-wrapped bakes sold from a stall or shop counter need a full PPDS label.
Can customers send me a photo of the cake they want?
Not on the order page. Ask them to send it on WhatsApp after ordering, and reply to confirm.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes, on Lite and above. For example, yourcakes.co.uk.
