Can a small online food order skip the extra card check in Europe or the UK?
Updated 16 October 2026
Sometimes. The EU lets a card payment up to €30 skip the extra check. The UK limit is £25.
- The EU also limits the total skipped since the last check: €100 or five payments in a row.
- The UK version is £85 in total or five payments in a row.
- The card's bank still decides whether to ask for the check.
- So some small orders will still be asked for it.
Take card payments on your own site
