Can I charge customers extra for paying by UPI or debit card in India?

No. In India, merchants may not pass UPI MDR on to customers, and banks must ensure merchants do not pass debit card MDR on to customers.
- UPI apps may not charge platform fees, and customers' own UPI payments stay free.
- RBI caps the debit card fee a merchant pays, with lower limits for small merchants and QR payments.
- If online payments cost you, build that cost into your menu prices instead of adding a payment fee.
- Check your gateway's current terms for the rate you pay.
Collect UPI on your own ordering site
Customers pay by UPI or card on your Menuthere ordering website through your own Razorpay or Easebuzz account, with no Menuthere commission.
