Do I need a cookie banner on my restaurant ordering website?
Updated 14 October 2026
It depends on the cookies you set and where your customers are. Under UK ICO guidance, cookies that are strictly necessary need no consent, but others need a clear opt-in.
- Basket cookies: the ICO says you are unlikely to need consent for strictly necessary cookies, such as ones that remember goods a user wants to buy.
- Still tell users about them, the ICO recommends.
- Ads and tracking: consent must be a positive action, more than simply continuing to use the site.
- Other countries differ. This is UK guidance, so check your local rules.
- List the cookies you really use. Fewer cookies means fewer banners.
A ready ordering website on your link
Menuthere gives you a ready ordering website on a Menuthere link, or on your own domain, so you have no site to build.
