What is a domain auth code and how do I get it?
Updated 11 October 2026
An auth code (also called an EPP or transfer code) is the secret the new registrar asks for when you move a domain. Your registrar must give it to you within five calendar days if it has no self-service tool.
- Where: ask your current registrar, or look for it in your domain settings.
- Deadline: with no self-service tool, the registrar must give you the code and remove the transfer lock within five calendar days.
- Payment disputes: a registrar may not refuse only because of a payment dispute with you.
- .in names: the registry says registrars are contractually required to give you the code when you ask.
Keep your domain in your hands
Menuthere restaurants can connect their own domain to their ordering website, so the domain stays under your control.
