What happens if I forget to renew my restaurant's domain?
Updated 3 October 2026
Your website stops loading, but you can usually still renew. For .com style names, ICANN rules make the registrar send reminders and let you renew after expiry.
- The registrar must send at least two reminders before expiry, about a month and about a week out.
- After expiry the website's DNS must be off for at least the last eight days you can still renew.
- After a name is deleted there is a 30-day redemption period where it can be restored.
- Renewal and restore fees must be shown when you register. Check them.
Keep taking orders while you renew
Your Menuthere ordering link and QR codes keep working on their own, so customers can still order while you sort out a domain.
