What is a PWA, and is it good enough for restaurant ordering?
Updated 9 October 2026
A PWA is a website that acts like an app. Customers add it to the home screen and it opens full screen. For most restaurants it is enough, with no app-store download.
- One codebase for any device, per Google's web.dev.
- On iPhone, any website can be added to the Home Screen from Safari's Share menu.
- Push notifications: iOS 16.4 added Web Push for web apps on the Home Screen, asked only after a tap.
- A real app is optional for most small restaurants.
