Why can't I transfer my new domain to another registrar yet?
Updated 11 October 2026
A registrar may refuse a transfer within 60 days of the domain's creation or of a previous transfer. Wait for the 60 days to pass, then ask for the auth code.
- New name: transfers can be refused for 60 days after the name was created.
- After a transfer: the same 60 days apply after a previous registrar transfer.
- Change of owner: the registrar must apply a 60-day lock after a change of registrant, unless you took an opt-out first.
- Next step: once the lock ends, ask your registrar for the auth code.
