UpMenu driver app: how own delivery works on UpMenu
Updated October 20, 2026
Yes. UpMenu has its own driver app for your delivery drivers, sold as the Driver App module at $19 a month per location. The app runs on Android and iOS: drivers see their orders, open the address in Google Maps or Apple Maps, mark orders delivered or not delivered and switch themselves on or off duty. Staff either assign each order to a driver or put orders in a pool that drivers claim, and they follow drivers on a live map in the Map tab. UpMenu's help articles don't describe a tracking link for customers on own-driver orders; customers can be messaged by email, SMS or app notification.
In short
- Driver App module: $19 a month per location, on top of an ordering plan.
- Two ways to hand out orders: staff assign to a driver, or drivers claim from a pool. No automatic assignment in the help articles.
- Staff live map of orders and drivers. Drivers navigate with Google Maps or Apple Maps.
- Order caps: Web Ordering is $49 (75 orders), $89 (210 orders) or $169 (unlimited) a month; extra orders cost $1.90 each.
- Customer side: email, SMS ($0.08 each) or app notification; no own-driver tracking link described.
How does UpMenu's driver app work?
From UpMenu's help centre, "Driver app (courier app)" and "Managing your own drivers' deliveries" (read 20 Oct 2026):
| Who | What they do |
|---|---|
| Restaurant staff | Accept the order, open the Map tab, choose a driver and mark the order ready, or mark it ready without a driver in order-pool mode |
| Staff map | "A live map with orders and driver statuses" |
| Driver | Claims an order ("it will be assigned to you"), or gets one assigned; taps Start the trip to open Google Maps or Apple Maps; marks it delivered or not delivered |
| Driver status | Drivers switch availability on or off |
| Turning it off | Deactivate driver accounts under Employees, then untick Driver App under Settings → Plans → Additional modules |
What's missing?
- No customer tracking link for own-driver orders in UpMenu's driver articles. Its "Messaging the customer" article covers email, SMS or app notifications you send, for example when "the driver is late".
- No automatic assignment in the help articles: staff pick a driver, or drivers claim orders.
- The cost depends on volume. The lower ordering tiers cap orders at 75 and 210 a month.
Worked example: 400 delivery orders a month
One location with 400 delivery orders a month and its own drivers. UpMenu prices from its pricing page (per location, billed monthly, before tax).
| UpMenu set-up | Ordering | Overage | Driver App | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Web Ordering $49 (75 orders) | $49 | 325 × $1.90 = $617.50 | $19 | $685.50 |
| Web Ordering $89 (210 orders) | $89 | 190 × $1.90 = $361 | $19 | $469 |
| Web Ordering $169 (unlimited) | $169 | $0 | $19 | $188 |
| + one SMS per order to customers | 400 × $0.08 = $32 | $220 on the unlimited tier |
What the numbers say:
- At 400 orders, the unlimited tier is the only sensible one: $188 a month with the Driver App, against $469 or more on the capped tiers.
- The tiers cross over early: at about 252 orders a month, $89 plus overage passes $169 ($89 + 42 × $1.90 = $168.80).
- UpMenu's Delivery Services module ($40 a location) is for courier integrations, not needed for your own drivers.
Driver wages and mileage aren't included; run them in the own delivery cost calculator.
How do I set up own drivers on UpMenu?
- Add the Driver App module to your location's plan.
- Create driver accounts under Employees.
- Have drivers install the app on Android or iOS and sign in.
- Choose assignment or pool: pick a driver on the Map tab, or mark orders ready without a driver so drivers claim them.
- Watch the live map for order and driver statuses during service.
- Pick the right ordering tier for your monthly order count, using the table above.
When is UpMenu the better choice?
- You want a driver app with an order pool, where drivers claim the next order themselves.
- You need POS or marketplace integrations (UpMenu's POS integrations are free per its pricing) or courier modules for Uber Direct, DoorDash Drive or Stuart.
- You want UpMenu's team to set up the store, menu and delivery zones for you.
How Menuthere compares
Both give your drivers an app. The differences are price and the customer view. On Menuthere Pro ($39 a month, unlimited orders, 0% commission):
- drivers use the Menuthere Delivery App on iPhone and Android and get a New Delivery Assignment push when you assign an order;
- the customer's order page shows the driver's name, an arrival estimate, a live map and a Call button, with no app to install (how it works);
- no order caps, no per-driver or per-location module fee, no per-delivery fee.
What it doesn't do: there's no order pool for your own drivers (you assign each order by hand), and no auto-dispatch, route optimisation, batching or photo proof of delivery. UpMenu has more POS integrations.
Menuthere Pro can also send WhatsApp order updates from your own number. In the US, Meta doesn't deliver WhatsApp marketing messages to +1 numbers, so WhatsApp sends order updates (utility messages, about US$0.0034 each) but not promotions; use email for offers.

Frequently asked questions
Does UpMenu have a driver app?

How are orders assigned to drivers in UpMenu?
Staff either choose a driver on the Map tab and mark the order ready, or mark it ready without a driver so drivers claim it from the pool. UpMenu's help articles don't describe automatic assignment.
Can customers track UpMenu's own drivers?
UpMenu's driver articles describe a live map for restaurant staff, not a tracking link for customers. Restaurants can message customers by email, SMS or app notification.
Which UpMenu plan do I need for 400 orders a month?
On UpMenu's published prices, the unlimited Web Ordering tier at $169 plus the $19 Driver App module, $188 a month in all. The $49 and $89 tiers include 75 and 210 orders and charge $1.90 for each extra order.

- Worked example: 325 × 1.90 = 617.50; 190 × 1.90 = 361; 400 × 0.08 = 32; crossover (169 − 89) ÷ 1.90 = 42.1 orders over 210, so about 252.
