The best restaurant delivery management software, scored
Updated October 20, 2026
For a restaurant running its own drivers, Shipday scores highest on our method: a free driver app, live ETA tracking for customers and photo proof of delivery, with auto-dispatch and SMS/WhatsApp notifications from $29 a month. We scored seven tools on seven criteria at one restaurant's volume, 400 deliveries a month with three drivers, using prices each company published on 20 October 2026. Menuthere, our product, comes fourth: it's the cheapest way to get ordering and a driver app with a live customer map in one plan ($39 a month), but you assign every order by hand and there's no proof of delivery. Dispatch-only tools (Shipday, Tookan, Track-POD, Onfleet) still need an ordering system next to them.
In short
- Shipday (13/14): the most complete restaurant dispatch tool at a small restaurant's budget.
- Tookan (10/14): auto-assignment and proof of delivery even on its free plan; generic, not restaurant-first.
- Track-POD (10/14): route optimisation and proof of delivery on every plan; minimum 3 drivers, built for scheduled routes.
- Menuthere (9/14): ordering + driver app + live customer map for $39; manual assignment.
- Onfleet (9/14): strong dispatch, from $619 a month.
- PosBytz (9/14): free rider app with WhatsApp/SMS updates, for PosBytz POS users.
- UpMenu (7/14): ordering with its own driver app module; no customer tracking described.
How we scored them
Each tool gets 0–2 points on seven criteria (14 in all), judged on the cheapest published plan that handles 400 deliveries a month for one location with three drivers. Every point comes from the vendor's own pages, read on 20 October 2026; we didn't test the products.
| Criterion | 2 points | 1 point | 0 points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Driver app | Its own app for your drivers | Through a partner's app | None |
| Customer tracking | Live map or tracking link for the customer | Staff-only map, or customer tracking not stated | None |
| Dispatch automation | Auto-assign or route optimisation on that plan | Only on a higher plan | Not offered |
| Proof of delivery | Photo and/or signature on that plan | Partial or on a higher plan | Not described |
| Cost at 400 deliveries | Under $50 a month | $50–250 | Over $250, or not published |
| Customer notifications | SMS or WhatsApp updates included | Add-on, paid per message, or one channel only | None |
| Online ordering | A full ordering website included | Order forms only | None (needs a separate system) |
Ties are broken by the lowest published monthly cost at 400 deliveries. Menuthere is our product. We never rank our own product first, and on this method it doesn't earn it.

The seven tools
1. Shipday: best overall for restaurant dispatch
- Price (20 Oct 2026): Basic free (300 orders, 10 drivers); Professional Lite $29 a month for 300 orders + $0.06 each after, so $35 at 400 deliveries; Professional $49 (+$0.10); Branded Elite $99; Business AI $199–399.
- What you get: Shipday Drive app, real-time driver tracking, live ETA tracking for customers and photo/signature proof of delivery on the free plan; standard auto-dispatch, route optimisation, SMS/WhatsApp notifications and customer order forms from Professional Lite.
- Watch for: per-order overage on every paid plan, a branded tracking page only from $99, and no full ordering website, so most restaurants pay a second vendor for ordering.
- Pick it over Menuthere if: you want automatic dispatch, route optimisation or proof of delivery, or you already have an ordering system you're happy with.
2. Tookan: best free plan for automation
- Price (20 Oct 2026): Free Forever (100 tasks, 2 agents); Startup $99 a month billed annually ($129 monthly) for 1,000 tasks, then $0.12 a task; Growth $249; Standard $399.
- What you get: auto-assignment, GPS tracking and proof of delivery even on the free plan; a customer view of the order "on map interface with real-time location of delivery agent" and a tracking link.
- Watch for: route optimisation and a branded agent app are paid add-ons on every plan; SMS and WhatsApp go through gateway integrations you set up; it's a general last-mile tool, not built for restaurants, and needs a separate ordering system.
- Pick it over Menuthere if: you need auto-assignment to the nearest free driver and can add ordering from elsewhere.
3. Track-POD: best for scheduled routes
- Price (20 Oct 2026): per driver, Advanced $49 a driver a month billed annually ($59 monthly), minimum 3 drivers, so $147 a month; per-order plans from $510 a month for 3,000 orders.
- What you get: driver app for Android and iPhone, route optimisation with ETA and electronic proof of delivery on every plan, and a live tracking link by email or SMS.
- Watch for: SMS is "charged additionally for all countries"; it's built for planned multi-stop routes (catering, meal plans) more than hot food on demand; no ordering.
- Pick it over Menuthere if: you deliver scheduled catering or meal-prep runs and want optimised routes and proof of delivery.
4. Menuthere: best for ordering and drivers in one plan
- Price: Pro $39 a month, unlimited orders, 0% commission, no per-delivery or per-driver fee. A Free plan exists for ordering without drivers.
- What you get: your own ordering website, the Menuthere Delivery App for iPhone and Android, and a customer order page with the driver's name, an arrival estimate, a live map and a Call button; WhatsApp order updates from your own number (Meta bills each message directly, no markup); Uber Direct on your own account outside India.
- Watch for: you assign each order by hand (no auto-dispatch, route optimisation or batching), no proof of delivery for your own drivers, no SMS, and the arrival estimate is straight-line distance, not traffic-aware. In the US, Meta doesn't deliver WhatsApp marketing messages to +1 numbers, so WhatsApp sends order updates (utility messages, about US$0.0034 each) but not promotions; use email for offers.
- Pick a rival over Menuthere if: you run more than a few drivers at once and need automatic dispatch or routes (Shipday, Tookan), or proof of delivery.
5. Onfleet: best for larger fleets
- Price (20 Oct 2026): Launch from $619 a month (2,500 tasks), Scale from $1,349 (5,000 tasks), Enterprise from $3,099.
- What you get: driver app, photo and signature proof of delivery, basic route optimisation on Launch; auto-dispatch and advanced routes on Scale; a live map tracking page and custom SMS at every step.
- Watch for: SMS is a telephony service billed per segment; the price is far above a single restaurant's budget; no ordering.
- Pick it over Menuthere if: you run a multi-location or catering fleet with thousands of tasks a month.
6. PosBytz: best if you use PosBytz POS
- Price: the delivery app is "included at no extra cost with your PosBytz subscription"; the POS price isn't on the delivery-app page.
- What you get: manual or automatic assignment, a live map of riders, photo and signature proof of delivery, geofencing, cash-collected tracking with end-of-shift settlement, and automatic WhatsApp or SMS updates (confirmed, out for delivery, delivered).
- Watch for: it's built into the PosBytz POS, so you'd move your billing to PosBytz; customer-side tracking isn't described on the page.
- Pick it over Menuthere if: you want POS, automatic assignment and cash settlement per rider in one system.
7. UpMenu: ordering with a driver app module
- Price: Web Ordering $169 a month (unlimited orders) + Driver App $19 a location = $188; capped tiers at $49 (75 orders) and $89 (210 orders) + $1.90 per extra order (UpMenu pricing, profile of 19 Oct 2026).
- What you get: a driver app for Android and iOS where drivers claim or receive orders and navigate with Google or Apple Maps; staff see a live map of orders and drivers.
- Watch for: UpMenu's help articles describe no customer tracking link, no automatic assignment and no proof of delivery for own drivers.
- Pick it over Menuthere if: you want an order pool that drivers claim from, or UpMenu's POS and courier integrations.
Which ordering platforms include a driver app?
Most ordering platforms don't build their own. Here's what each one's own pages said on 20 October 2026, with our full guide for each:
| Ordering platform | Your own drivers | Driver app |
|---|---|---|
| Toast | Delivery Mode dispatches clocked-in staff | None; Shipday integration |
| Square | In-house delivery areas and fees | None; Shipday in the App Marketplace |
| Clover | Zones through Clover Hospitality by BentoBox | None found |
| Owner.com | In-house, third-party (~$7) or both | None found; call or text from the ticket |
| ChowNow | In-house zones + Flex Delivery couriers | None found |
| Flipdish | "Use own drivers" in Flipdish POS | Shipday Drive (Shipday subscription required) |
| Otter | In-house or Uber Direct / DoorDash Drive | None; Shipday or Nash integration |
| UpMenu | Driver App module | Yes, $19 a location |
| Menuthere | Own riders on Pro | Yes, included in Pro |
The pattern: Shipday is the driver layer behind many ordering platforms, so a restaurant often pays two vendors. For a broader list of ordering systems that support your own drivers, see online ordering with your own delivery drivers.
What does delivery management cost at 400 deliveries a month?
| Set-up | Monthly software cost | Ordering included? |
|---|---|---|
| Menuthere Pro | $39 | Yes |
| Shipday Professional Lite | $35 | Order forms only |
| Tookan Startup (annual) | $99 | No |
| Track-POD Advanced, 3 drivers (annual) | $147 | No |
| UpMenu Web Ordering unlimited + Driver App | $188 | Yes |
| Onfleet Launch | $619 | No |
| PosBytz | Part of the PosBytz subscription (not published on the page) | POS |
Driver wages, mileage and insurance come on top of every row and are usually far bigger. Work yours out in the own delivery cost calculator, and read in-house delivery for restaurants for the whole set-up.

Frequently asked questions
What is restaurant delivery management software?
Software that runs delivery by your own drivers: a driver app, a way to assign orders, tracking for you and the customer, and often route planning and proof of delivery. Some tools only dispatch drivers; others, such as Menuthere and UpMenu, include the ordering website too.
What is the best delivery management software for a small restaurant?
On our scoring at 400 deliveries a month, Shipday scored highest (13 of 14) for its free driver app, customer tracking and proof of delivery, with auto-dispatch from $29 a month. If you also need an ordering website, Menuthere Pro includes ordering and a driver app with a live customer map for $39 a month, but you assign orders by hand.
Do I need a separate ordering system with Shipday or Tookan?
Usually, yes. Shipday's paid plans include customer order forms, and Tookan's customer booking forms are a paid add-on on Startup, but neither is a full restaurant ordering website. Many restaurants connect them to an ordering platform such as Flipdish, Toast or Otter.
Which ordering platforms have their own driver app?
Of the platforms we checked on 20 October 2026, UpMenu (a $19-a-location module) and Menuthere (included in Pro) have their own driver apps. Flipdish's own-driver set-up uses the Shipday Drive app, and Toast, Square and Otter point to Shipday or other partners.
Does Menuthere assign orders to drivers automatically?
No. On Menuthere you assign each order to one of your drivers by hand from the Orders screen, with online drivers listed first. There is no auto-dispatch, route optimisation, batching or proof of delivery for your own drivers.
