Can Clover run your own delivery drivers?
Updated October 20, 2026
Not with Clover's own online ordering. Clover sends delivery orders to DoorDash Drive couriers, or takes delivery orders through its Grubhub integration. Clover's delivery page says online orders are "processed in your Clover POS and then dispatched to DoorDash for delivery". We found no setting for your own drivers in Clover Online Ordering, and no Clover driver app. Restaurants that staff their own drivers can set delivery zones and fees in Clover Hospitality by BentoBox, the restaurant website product Clover now owns, but BentoBox's help article describes zones only: no driver app or live tracking.
In short
- Clover Online Ordering delivery = DoorDash Drive. You switch on "Delivery (via DoorDash Drive)" in the Online Ordering page of the Clover Dashboard.
- DoorDash fee: Clover's blog says DoorDash charges $6.99 a delivery order, invoiced monthly, and you can pass some or all of it to customers.
- Online ordering itself has no setup or subscription fee, but needs a Clover POS device (Station Solo, Station Duo, Mini or Flex) connected to a printer.
- Your own drivers: zones and fees in Clover Hospitality by BentoBox (polygon, circle or radius; flat or percentage fee). No driver app.
- No customer tracking for your own drivers on any Clover page we read.
What does Clover offer for delivery?
| Option | Who drives | What you set | Cost (read 20 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clover Online Ordering with Delivery | DoorDash Drive couriers | Toggle "Delivery (via DoorDash Drive)", a minimum order, fee pass-through; DoorDash sets up the delivery account | $6.99 a delivery order per Clover's blog, invoiced monthly by DoorDash |
| Grubhub integration | Grubhub's own channel | Connect an existing Grubhub account; Grubhub builds its menu from your Clover inventory and syncs it | Grubhub's commission (see Grubhub rates) |
| Clover Hospitality by BentoBox | Your own drivers | Zones drawn as a polygon, a circle or a radius in miles; a flat or percentage fee per zone | BentoBox subscription; DoorDash Drive zones are "predetermined" |
Requirements from Clover's online ordering page: a Clover POS device (Station Solo, Station Duo, Mini or Flex) connected to a printer; not available on the Payments Plus and Register Lite software plans. Online orders are card-not-present payments, which Clover.com's restaurant plans price at 3.5% + 10¢, against 2.3% + 10¢ for cards tapped, swiped or inserted.
What's missing when you run your own drivers on Clover?
- No own-driver option in Clover Online Ordering. Clover's pages describe DoorDash Drive or Grubhub for delivery. A Clover community post from a pizzeria with its own drivers asked how to offer delivery at checkout without DoorDash; we found no published answer.
- No driver app. Neither Clover nor BentoBox's zone article describes one.
- No live map for customers on your own drivers. DoorDash Drive customers get DoorDash's SMS updates.
Worked example: 400 deliveries a month
A family restaurant on Clover does 400 delivery orders a month at a $30 average order. Driver wages and mileage are left out of the in-house row; run them in the own delivery cost calculator.
| Line | DoorDash Drive through Clover | Your own drivers through BentoBox zones |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery fee per order | $6.99 (Clover blog) | Your fee per zone; your drivers' wages |
| Delivery cost for 400 orders | 400 × $6.99 = $2,796 | Wages + mileage (calculator) |
| Card processing on $12,000 of online orders | 400 × ($30 × 3.5% + $0.10) = $460 | Same $460 |
| Driver app / tracking | DoorDash's SMS updates | None from Clover or BentoBox |
| Can you pass the fee on? | Some or all of it, per Clover's blog | Yes, it's your fee |
What the numbers say:
- DoorDash Drive through Clover costs about $2,800 a month in delivery fees at this volume, on top of card fees. You can recover part of it with a delivery charge or a minimum order.
- Processing is the same either way: $460 a month on $12,000 of online card sales at Clover's card-not-present rate.
- Your own drivers only pay off when they cover enough deliveries per hour; the calculator shows the break-even.
How do I deliver with my own drivers on Clover?
- Check where your online orders come from. If they come from Clover Online Ordering, delivery runs through DoorDash Drive; your own drivers need another ordering front end.
- If you use Clover Hospitality by BentoBox, draw your zones (polygon, circle or a radius in miles) and set a flat or percentage fee for each.
- Give drivers the order from the printed ticket, and agree how they report delivered orders.
- Price delivery from your real cost per mile with the delivery fee calculator.
- Need tracking? You'll need a separate dispatch app or an ordering system with its own driver app.
When is Clover the better choice?
- You're on Clover POS and don't want to employ drivers. DoorDash Drive is a toggle away, with no ordering subscription.
- You want online orders, tickets and card payments in one system with no extra software fee for pickup, curbside or dine-in ordering.
- Your Grubhub orders should land in Clover without a separate tablet.
How Menuthere compares
Menuthere is an ordering system with its own driver app. On the Pro plan ($39 a month):
- your drivers use the Menuthere Delivery App on iPhone and Android, get a push notification for each order you assign, and mark it delivered;
- the customer's order page shows the driver's name, an arrival estimate, a live map and a Call button, with nothing to download (how it works);
- Menuthere charges no per-delivery fee; card payments go to your own Stripe account at Stripe's rates;
- outside India you can also connect your own Uber Direct account for courier delivery.
What it doesn't do: you assign each order by hand (no auto-dispatch, route optimisation, batching or photo proof of delivery), and it doesn't connect to Clover POS, so orders arrive in Menuthere's dashboard.
Menuthere Pro can also send WhatsApp order updates from your own number. In the US, Meta doesn't deliver WhatsApp marketing messages to +1 numbers, so WhatsApp sends order updates (utility messages, about US$0.0034 each) but not promotions; use email for offers.
