Free Diwali menu card templates for restaurants and sweet shops

Updated October 20, 2026

Copy a Diwali menu card from this page, change the dishes and ₹ prices, and print it or put it on your QR menu. There are four templates: a restaurant Diwali special thali, a sweet shop price list by kg, 500 g and box, a faral card with price, and a per-plate party menu for catering. Each one has the lines Indian customers and inspectors look for: whether prices include GST, your FSSAI number on the bill, and a clear veg mark.

India rules to check before you print

  • GST on restaurant food. A standalone restaurant charges 5% GST on the food it serves and cannot claim input tax credit. In September 2025 the GST Council confirmed that a standalone restaurant cannot opt for 18% with input tax credit instead. Say on the menu whether prices include GST, because a "+GST" menu makes every bill higher than the card. Mithai sold over the counter by weight is a sale of goods, so its rate follows the item's HSN code; confirm it with your accountant.
  • FSSAI number on every bill. Since 1 January 2022, food businesses must print their 14-digit FSSAI licence or registration number on receipts, invoices and cash memos. Putting it in the menu footer as well costs nothing.
  • Best before dates on loose sweets. FSSAI made a "best before" date mandatory on trays of loose sweets from 1 October 2020, then withdrew that direction on 7 November 2023. It is now voluntary at the national level. Showing it on tray cards still answers the question every Diwali shopper asks, and a state food safety department can set its own rule, so check yours.
  • Service charge. Under the CCPA's July 2022 guidelines, upheld by the Delhi High Court in March 2025, a restaurant cannot add a service charge to the bill automatically. On a party menu, write that any service charge is optional.

Worked example: costing a 500 g Diwali sweet box

These figures are an example only. Use your own recipe costs.

Cost line₹
Sweets, 500 g net (khoya, sugar, ghee, nuts)190

Gas, labor and packing share45
Total cost per box265
Target margin 55%: price = 265 ÷ (1 − 0.55)589

If your price list is GST-inclusive, add GST at your HSN rate before you round. Cost it with this week's dry fruit rates. The free menu price calculator runs the same sum for each item.

How to do it in Menuthere

  1. Put the Diwali menu on your QR menu. Sign up free, then upload your finished card as a PDF or photo; AI reads the dishes and prices, and you check them before saving. Print the free QR code menu for tables and the counter. The Free plan includes unlimited items and 50 orders a month at 0% commission.
  2. Create a "Diwali Special" category and switch it on for the festival, then off afterwards. "Show dishes at set times" works by weekday and time of day only, not calendar dates, so it suits a lunch-only thali but not a 6 to 11 November window. See show dishes at set times.
  3. Mark sold-out sweets out of stock (a dish, a size or a whole category) on every plan, so nobody orders kaju katli you no longer have.
  4. Take box and faral orders in advance with prebooking on Lite (US$17 a month): customers pick a pickup date, and boxes can need 2 days' notice. The full set-up is on Diwali sweet box pre-orders.
  5. Take payment online on Lite with Razorpay or Easebuzz, so customers pay by UPI or card. Cashfree is available on Pro.
  6. Announce it. On Lite, a pop-up banner can run "Diwali boxes now open" on chosen dates. With your own branded app, you can send a push notification to regulars.

Compare plans on the pricing page; Lite and Pro have a 7-day free trial (card needed, nothing charged until it ends). See also WhatsApp ordering for sweet shops, the India ordering system and the UK Diwali menu.

Free plan: QR menu, unlimited items, 50 orders a month, 0% commission.

FAQs

What should a Diwali menu card include?

List the festival dishes with a clear price for each thali, box or plate, the dates the menu runs, and a veg mark. Add a line saying whether prices include GST, your FSSAI number, and an allergy note. Sweet shops should price by kg and 500 g as well as by box.

What is a Diwali faral menu card?

It is a rate card for Maharashtrian Diwali snacks such as chakli, chivda, shankarpali, karanji, ladoo and anarsa. Most sellers show a rate per kg, a smaller pack price and a mixed faral box, plus the last date to order.

Do sweet shops have to show a best before date on loose sweets?

Not under a national rule at present. FSSAI made it mandatory for trays of loose sweets from 1 October 2020 and withdrew that direction on 7 November 2023, so it is now voluntary. Many shops still show it, and state food safety departments can set their own rules.

Should Diwali menu prices include GST?

Either is allowed if the menu says which. A standalone restaurant charges 5% GST on food it serves, without input tax credit. Writing "inclusive of GST" avoids surprises at billing.

Can a restaurant add a service charge to a Diwali party bill?

Not automatically. The CCPA guidelines of July 2022, upheld by the Delhi High Court in March 2025, say a service charge cannot be added by default and must be optional for the customer.

When is Diwali in 2026 and 2027?

Lakshmi Puja falls on Sunday 8 November 2026 and Friday 29 October 2027. Dhanteras is Friday 6 November 2026 and Wednesday 27 October 2027. Local panchangs can differ by a day.

Are these Diwali menu templates free to use?

Yes. Copy, edit and print them for your own restaurant or shop. You cannot resell the templates.
