A new licence or registration needs no renewal since 1 April 2026. Pay the annual fee to keep it active.

A licence or registration issued on or after 1 April 2026 stays valid until it is suspended, cancelled or surrendered. If the annual fee is not paid, it is deemed suspended and you cannot run the food business until it is. You can pay the fee for any number of years at once, at any time of the year.

Already hold one from before 1 April 2026? FSSAI's FAQs speak only of licences issued from that date, so check FoSCoS for yours. They also say existing holders move to the new turnover bands from their own self-declaration on FoSCoS: no approval, the same licence number and no fee. A State licence fee already paid is adjusted against the registration fee if your turnover now qualifies for registration.

• Your photo
• A government photo ID, such as Aadhaar, PAN or Voter ID
• Proof of address of the place where you do business, if it is different from the address on your ID
• The Licensing Regulations also ask for a self-attested hygiene declaration (Annexure 1) filed with Form A

FSSAI's 2026 rules let it grant a registration instantly once the documents are submitted.

1. Open foscos.fssai.gov.in and log in.
2. Click Apply for License/Registration.
3. Pick your State and read the note shown.
4. Choose your Kind of Business and the option that matches your turnover.
5. Fill Form A and upload your documents.
6. Pay online. The receipt carries a 17-digit reference number: keep it, and track your application on the FoSCoS home page.

• Display your registration certificate and photo ID card in a prominent place in your premises.
• Print your 14-digit FSSAI number on every cash receipt, invoice, cash memo and bill. This has been required since 1 October 2021.
• Put up the Food Safety Display Board. FSSAI is bringing it in in phases. It shows your FSSAI number, hygiene rules and how customers can send feedback. It is A4 for registered businesses and A3 for licensed ones, with at least one board.
• Show allergen information beside the dishes on your menu (symbols are allowed), and the veg or non-veg mark. Event caterers and places open under 60 days a year are exempt. Make an allergen chart
• If you have 10 or more outlets, you also show kcal per serving and the serving size beside each dish, with the line: An average active adult requires 2,000 kcal energy per day, however, calorie needs may vary.
• Sell on delivery apps? From 1 April 2026 the app shows your licence or registration and your number goes on the invoice.
