Wi-Fi QR code card for your cafe or restaurant

The code holds your network name, password and security type as text. A phone camera reads it and offers to join the network. The code does not connect to anything on its own, and it works without internet. The format is documented by the open ZXing project.

Yes. The code holds the password as plain text, so anyone who scans the card can read it. Put the card where only guests will see it, and use a guest network instead of your main one. If the password changes, make and print a new card.

If your router says WPA, WPA2 or WPA3, choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3. Choose WEP only if your router says WEP, and No password for an open network. You can find the type in your router settings or on its label.

Turn on Hidden network. The code then tells the phone to look for the network by name, even though it does not show in the Wi-Fi list. The name has to match exactly, including capitals and spaces.

Google says a QR code can connect a Pixel phone to a Wi-Fi network from the Camera app. Other phones and older versions differ, and some need a scanner app. Scan the card with your own phone and a friend's before you print it. The text option lets guests type the details if the code does not work for them.
