Free takeaway menu template for UK takeaways
Updated 20 October 2026
Copy the free takeaway menu template on this page, add your dishes and £ prices, and print it as a DL leaflet or a counter board, or make it in our free menu maker and download a print-ready PDF. It's built for UK takeaways: your phone number, hours, delivery area and minimum order on the front, prices including VAT, an allergen line, and the bilingual food hygiene statement that takeaways in Wales must print. No email or sign-up needed. Then put the same menu online so customers can order direct, with no app commission.
In short
- Two formats: a DL leaflet (an A4 sheet folded into three 99 × 210 mm panels) for doors and bags, and a counter board (A4 landscape or A3) behind the counter.
- Allergens at delivery: the FSA lists "an enclosed copy of a menu" as one way to give allergen information when food is delivered.
- In Wales, a takeaway menu or leaflet that shows food, prices and a way to order must carry a bilingual statement pointing to the food hygiene ratings website.
- Prices include VAT: hot takeaway food is 20%; most cold takeaway food is zero-rated.
Make this template in the free menu maker
| Setting | Leaflet or table menu | Counter board |
|---|---|---|
| Design | Classic, Bold board or Pizzeria | Bold board |
| Size | A4 menu (print two-sided and fold for a DL leaflet at your print shop) | Counter board (A4 landscape, or A3 as a poster) |
| Currency | £ | £ |
| Sections | Starters, mains, sides, drinks, meal deals | Your top 10–15 items with big prices |
| Foot line | Allergy notice, delivery charge and minimum order | Allergy notice |
Open the printable menu maker, press Paste your menu and paste your dishes one per line with the price at the end ("Cod and chips 11.40"). A line with no price starts a new section. Add (V) or (VG) after a name, a "Contains:" line under a dish, and the allergy notice in the foot line, then download the PDF. A long menu carries on to a second page without cutting a dish in half. What a UK takeaway menu must show
| Must show | Who it applies to | Wording or rule |
|---|---|---|
| Prices including VAT | VAT-registered takeaways | "£11.40", not "£9.50 + VAT". Hot food is 20%; cold takeaway food is mostly 0% |
| Allergen information | Every food business | Before the order (on the menu, website or by phone) and again on delivery; the FSA advises in writing both times |
| Bilingual hygiene rating statement | Takeaways in Wales whose menu or leaflet shows food, prices and a way to order without visiting | The prescribed English and Welsh statement directing customers to the food hygiene ratings website |
| Calories and "Adults need around 2000 kcal a day" | Businesses with 250+ employees in England | Also on delivery: a calorie-labelled menu in the bag or stickers |
| No card surcharge | Everyone | Banned on consumer cards since January 2018 |
Allergens on delivery. The FSA's allergen guidance says that for food sold by phone or online, allergen information must be given before the purchase is completed and again when the food is delivered, and gives "allergen stickers on food or an enclosed copy of a menu" as examples for the second stage. A printed menu with "Contains:" lines in every bag covers it. For stickers, use the free allergen label maker; for a full sheet, the allergen chart maker.
VAT in brief. HMRC's VAT Notice 709/1 lists chips, fish and chips, Chinese and Indian takeaway meals, pizzas and kebabs as hot takeaway food, standard-rated at 20%. Food kept hot or packed in heat-retentive bags counts too. See VAT on takeaway food.
Put the same menu online and take orders direct
A leaflet gets the phone ringing; an online menu takes the order without it. Upload the PDF you just made, or a photo of your leaflet, to Menuthere and it reads in your dishes and prices. Customers order and pay on your own page with 0% commission: free for 50 orders a month, unlimited on Lite (US$17 a month). See the takeaway ordering system, or the guides for fish and chip shops, kebab shops, pizza, Chinese and Indian takeaways.

FAQs
Is this takeaway menu template free?
Yes. Copy the layout on this page, or make it in the free menu maker and download a PDF. No sign-up, email or watermark, and you can use it for your own takeaway.
What size is a takeaway menu leaflet?
Most UK takeaways use a DL leaflet: an A4 sheet folded into three panels of 99 × 210 mm. For the wall behind the counter, use a counter board on A4 landscape or A3.
What must a takeaway menu include in Wales?
If it shows food, prices and a way to order without visiting, it must carry the bilingual statement telling customers they can check your food hygiene rating on the ratings website.
Do I have to list allergens on my takeaway menu?
You must give allergen information before the order and again on delivery. It doesn't have to be on the leaflet, but the FSA advises written information, and an enclosed menu with allergens is one way to cover delivery.
Do takeaway menu prices have to include VAT?
Yes, if you're VAT-registered. Show the price the customer pays. Hot takeaway food is standard-rated at 20%, and most cold takeaway food is zero-rated.
