Valentine's Day 2027 is Sunday 14 February, so plan for two busy nights rather than one: Saturday 13 February is likely to fill first, and Sunday is the day itself. Sell one set menu priced per couple, release it in mid-January with two sittings each night, and offer a "date night in" box for couples who would rather eat at home. The date never moves; only the weekday does. With a Sunday Valentine's, many couples will likely book the Saturday instead, so check last year's bookings. If you ran a Chinese New Year banquet the weekend before, reuse its booking set-up.

• Keep it short: three choices per course lets the kitchen prep ahead on a full night.
• Build in a dish for two, such as a chateaubriand or a whole fish, as the centrepiece.
• Make dessert the shareable course, and give a real vegan route through every course.

How to price a Valentine's set menu for two

Price the whole couple, not each person: add up two of everything plus the fizz, then work to your gross profit (GP) target. These numbers are an example only.

Valentine's Day promotion ideas for restaurants

1. A date-limited discount code for the quiet nights. Don't discount a Saturday you'll fill anyway. Make a code valid only from Monday 15 to Thursday 18 February for couples who missed out on a weekend table. Codes can be limited by weekday and date, never by time of day.
2. Two sittings with the number of people, so a booking for two doesn't take a table for six.
3. Pre-order the menu with the booking, so you buy exactly what you need.
4. A pop-up banner on your menu from mid-January: "Valentine's set menu, £79 per couple. Book Saturday or Sunday."
5. A drinks QR on every table for the second bottle; the table QR card maker prints them free, and the festival poster maker does a window poster.

UK rules for a Valentine's menu

• Deposits. A Valentine's no-show can't be resold. Under CMA guidance on unfair terms, you may keep a genuine deposit when a couple cancels, provided the terms were clear when they booked; it should normally be a small share of the total, and a large non-refundable prepayment risks being unfair. • Price Marking. Show the per-couple price, and any supplement or service charge, at or near the entrance before guests sit down, as the Price Marking (Food and Drink Services) Order 2003 requires.
• Drinks. In England and Wales the mandatory licensing conditions say still wine by the glass must be offered in 125 ml, spirits in 25 ml or 35 ml and beer in half pints, and your drinks list must say so. Unlimited or unspecified free or discounted alcohol can count as an irresponsible promotion, even with a meal, so skip "bottomless fizz".
• Allergens. Oysters are molluscs, prawns are crustaceans, chocolate desserts often hold milk, soya and nuts, and wine contains sulphites. Check every dish against the 14 allergens.
