Otter alternatives for restaurants that want direct orders
Updated October 20, 2026
Which Otter alternative is best depends on which part of Otter you use. If you use Otter to pull DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub orders into one screen, you need another aggregator such as Deliverect or Chowly; Menuthere doesn't do that. If you use Otter for commission-free direct ordering, Menuthere is a cheaper way to run it: a free plan, Lite at $17 a month and Pro at $39, with no POS bundle. Otter's own online ordering comes in its Advanced POS plan at $178 a month per location plus a transaction fee it doesn't publish, with a 24-month contract for hardware leases (pricing page, read October 20, 2026).
In short
- Otter's US plans are POS bundles: Starter $79, Advanced $178 and Professional $278 a month per location, each "+ Transaction fee". Online ordering and QR ordering start on Advanced; the website builder, loyalty and gift cards on Professional.
- Small-volume minimum: a $100 monthly processing minimum applies to locations with under $25,000 of card volume a month.
- Contract: "24-month contract required for all hardware leases", with a pre-termination fee if you cancel the POS early.
- Otter wins on aggregation: one tablet for DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and more. Menuthere has no delivery-app aggregation.
- Menuthere wins on direct ordering cost and own riders: 0% commission, no per-order fee, and on Pro an iOS/Android rider app with a live map, assigned by hand.

Fine print: "Minimum processing fee of $100/mo applies to locations with monthly card volume under $25,000. Applies to POS only. 24-month contract required for all hardware leases." Otter's FAQ adds that there is a pre-termination fee for the POS if you cancel before your contract ends, and that online ordering is "completely commission-free" with a standard card transaction fee. The transaction fee rates aren't published.
Where it sells: Otter POS and its hardware are "currently only available in the US&C"; elsewhere Otter supports bring-your-own-device. UK plans are priced separately (Online Ordering from £39 a month).
Which part of Otter are you replacing?
| If you use Otter for… | What to look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One screen for delivery-app orders | Deliverect, Chowly | Both aggregate marketplace orders into your POS; both are quote only |
| Commission-free direct ordering | Menuthere, Square Online | Ordering website and QR ordering without a POS bundle (Menuthere) or on Square POS |
| Dispatching your own drivers | Menuthere Pro, Shipday, Tookan | Otter sends direct orders to DoorDash Drive, Uber Direct or Relay, and manages your drivers through Shipday or Nash; it has no driver app of its own |
| The POS itself | Square, Toast, Clover | Otter's POS is the base of every US plan |

Worked example: 600 direct online orders a month
A US restaurant takes 600 direct online orders a month at $30 ($18,000 of card payments) and wants a website and QR ordering. List prices, before sales tax.
| Monthly cost | Otter Professional | Menuthere Lite | Menuthere Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan | $278 (POS, aggregation, ordering, website, loyalty) | $17 | $39 |
| Website | Included (website builder) | Included (ordering website, own domain) | Included |
| Card / transaction fees | Otter's rate, not published; under $25,000 a month the $100 processing minimum applies | Stripe 2.9% × $18,000 + 600 × 30¢ = $702 | $702 |
| Own riders | Through Shipday or Nash (separate) | — | Included |
| Known monthly cost | $278 + transaction fees | $719 | $741 + about $6 of WhatsApp fees to Meta |
If Otter's card rate matched Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢, the Otter month would be $278 + $702 = $980, with a POS and delivery-app aggregation included. The difference is what those two things are worth to you: if you don't need a new POS or aggregation, Menuthere avoids paying for them.
In the US, WhatsApp sends order updates, not promotions. Meta does not deliver WhatsApp marketing messages to +1 numbers, so WhatsApp sends order updates (utility messages, about $0.0034 each, billed by Meta with no markup) but not promotions; use email for offers.
When is Otter the better choice?
- You're on three or more delivery apps. Otter's Order Manager puts DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub and others on one screen. Menuthere doesn't aggregate delivery-app orders.
- You want a new POS anyway. Every US Otter plan is a POS bundle with terminal, printer and card reader, so ordering, aggregation and POS come from one vendor.
- You run virtual brands or a ghost kitchen. One aggregation screen and one menu across brands is what Otter is built for.
- You want automatic courier dispatch. Otter's help centre describes automatic or manual courier assignment with DoorDash Drive and Relay, and customer tracking links. Menuthere assigns your own riders by hand.
When is Menuthere the better choice?
- You only need direct ordering. Lite is $17 a month with unlimited orders and 0% commission, with no POS bundle, hardware lease or processing minimum.
- You run your own riders. On Pro your riders get the Menuthere Delivery app on iPhone or Android and customers follow them on a live map, with no per-delivery fee. See the rider app.
- Your customers use WhatsApp. Order updates come from your own WhatsApp number; Otter uses WhatsApp only for operator alerts.
- You don't want a contract. Menuthere has none; Otter's hardware leases run 24 months.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Otter alternative?
It depends on what you use Otter for. For delivery-app aggregation, Deliverect and Chowly are the closest swaps, both quote only. For commission-free direct ordering without a POS bundle, Menuthere has a free plan, Lite at $17 a month and Pro at $39 with WhatsApp updates and your own riders. Menuthere doesn't aggregate delivery-app orders.
How much does Otter cost?
Otter's US pricing page lists Starter at $79, Advanced at $178 and Professional at $278 a month per location, each plus a transaction fee it doesn't publish. A $100 monthly processing minimum applies under $25,000 of card volume, and hardware leases need a 24-month contract.
Does Otter have its own online ordering?
Yes. Otter's online ordering and QR ordering come with the Advanced and Professional POS plans, and Otter says online ordering is commission-free with a standard card transaction fee. The website builder costs $30 a website and needs online ordering set up in Otter.
Does Otter have a driver app?
Not of its own. Otter sends direct-order deliveries to DoorDash Drive, Uber Direct or Relay, and its help centre says you can manage existing drivers through integrations such as Shipday and Nash. Menuthere Pro includes a rider app for iPhone and Android with a live map; you assign each order by hand.
Can Menuthere replace Otter's Order Manager?
No. Menuthere doesn't pull DoorDash, Uber Eats or Grubhub orders into its dashboard. It replaces the direct-ordering side: your own website, QR ordering and delivery with your own riders, with 0% commission.
