What Toast online ordering really costs in 2026
Updated October 20, 2026
Toast online ordering has no single price. You pay for a Toast POS plan (from $0 a month on the pay-as-you-go Starter Kit, or from $69 a month on Point of Sale), plus the Digital Storefront add-on, whose price Toast does not publish (Toast pricing page, read October 20, 2026). On top of that come Toast's card-not-present rate on every online payment (also unpublished), a flat fee per delivery if Toast Delivery Services brings the order ($6.99 to $9.99 with Uber Direct, by distance), and one-off setup costs such as the $125 Online Ordering Setup consult. This page adds up the parts Toast publishes, and marks the parts it doesn't.
In short
- Online ordering is an add-on, not a plan. Toast lists Digital Storefront Essentials and Pro as "Available with add-on; additional fees may apply" on every plan, with no price shown.
- Card fees are tied to Toast. Toast says it is "a payment facilitator", and online orders, Apple Pay included, are charged at its card-not-present rate. Toast does not publish that rate.
- Delivery is per order, by distance. Toast Delivery Services charges $6.99 to $9.99 per Uber Direct delivery and $7.49 plus $0.50 a mile over 5 miles for DoorDash Drive, withheld from your card payouts.
- Setup is billed by the day. An on-site installation day is $1,000, a remote day $800, and an Online Ordering Setup consult $125.
- Toast is worth it if you want the till, kitchen and online orders on one system and will use the hardware.
What does Toast cost in 2026?
These are the US plans on Toast's pricing page (page "last updated on: August 20, 2026"; read October 20, 2026). Toast's footnote says prices apply "to new customers and single locations only" and include the first hardware terminal subscription.
| Plan | Price | Billing | What's included | Read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter Kit | From $0 a month | Pay-as-you-go | 1 location, up to 2 terminals, a hardware kit "with no upfront costs"; paid for through an "all-in-one platform rate" (not published) | Oct 20, 2026 |
| Point of Sale | From $69 a month | Monthly subscription | POS software with your choice of hardware; first terminal included, "additional charges apply for subsequent devices" | Oct 20, 2026 |
| Build Your Own | Custom | Quote | Custom setup for larger or multi-location restaurants | Oct 20, 2026 |
| Digital Storefront Essentials | Not published | Add-on on every plan | Online ordering, Toast Delivery Services and the Local by Toast app | Oct 20, 2026 |
| Digital Storefront Pro | Not published | Add-on on every plan | Essentials plus Toast Websites, custom online ordering and SEO features | Oct 20, 2026 |
| Marketing Essentials | Not published | Add-on | Email marketing, loyalty and gift cards | Oct 20, 2026 |
The key line: none of the POS plans include online ordering. You choose a POS plan first, then buy Digital Storefront on top, at a price you get from Toast's sales team.
What fees come on top of the plan?
| Fee | What Toast publishes | Source (read) |
|---|---|---|
| Online card processing | Not published. Toast says it is "not a payment card processor, but it is a payment facilitator"; online orders and online Apple Pay are charged at the Card-Not-Present rate | Pricing FAQ; Online Ordering FAQ, updated Oct 14, 2026 (read Oct 20, 2026) |
| Per-order commission | None on Toast Online Ordering orders; card processing still applies | Toast online ordering pages (read Oct 19–20, 2026) |
| Online Ordering setup | $125 for a one-hour consult with a Toast modules specialist | Onboarding Rates and Fees, updated Sep 2, 2026 |
| Installation | $1,000 per on-site day, $800 per remote day; $500 a day extra outside standard hours | Onboarding Rates and Fees |
| Late cancellation of an install | $300 per day per resource if cancelled or moved less than 7 days before | Onboarding Rates and Fees |
| Hardware | Upfront hardware is one of Toast's two upfront costs; first terminal subscription included, more devices cost extra; Toast software runs only on approved Toast hardware | Pricing page and FAQ |
| Toast Delivery Services (Uber Direct) | $6.99 under 6 miles, $8.74 for 6–8, $9.49 for 8–9, $9.99 for 9–10 (straight-line distance) | Toast Delivery Services article, updated Oct 8, 2026 |
| Toast Delivery Services (DoorDash Drive) | $7.49 within 5 miles, plus $0.50 per mile above 5, up to 10 (driving distance) | Same article |
| Regulatory fees per delivery | California +$2.00; New York City +$3.00 (Uber) / +$2.99 (DoorDash); Seattle +$5.00 / +$4.99 | Same article |
| Delivery cancellations and re-dispatch | Uber Direct: $5.00 once a driver is assigned, the full fee after pickup; DoorDash Drive: the full fee after pickup. Each re-dispatch withholds another delivery fee and tip | Billing FAQ, updated Oct 2, 2026 |
| Contract | Toast's 2025 annual report says software contracts generally run 12 to 36 months | Toast Form 10-K, filed Feb 18, 2026 |
How Toast collects delivery fees. Toast withholds the delivery fee, the driver tip and its flat service fee from your daily card payouts, so there is no separate bill. You choose how much of the delivery fee to pass on to guests; whatever you don't pass on comes out of your payout.
Worked example: 600 online orders a month at $30
One US restaurant on Toast takes 600 online orders a month, all paid by card online, at an average of $30. That is $18,000 a month of online card volume. It is on the Point of Sale plan and books one remote installation day.
Toast does not publish its card-not-present rate, so the card line uses Stripe's US rate of 2.9% + 30¢ as a benchmark only: 2.9% × $18,000 = $522, plus 600 × $0.30 = $180, so $702 a month. Your Toast rate may be higher or lower.
| Line | Toast, monthly | Toast, first year |
|---|---|---|
| Point of Sale plan | $69 | $828 |
| Digital Storefront add-on | Not published | Not published |
| Card fees (benchmark 2.9% + 30¢) | $702 | $8,424 |
| Online Ordering Setup consult | — | $125 |
| One remote installation day | — | $800 |
| Hardware beyond the first terminal | Quote | Quote |
| Known total | $771 + the add-on | $10,177 + 12 months of the add-on + hardware |
Now add delivery. Say 200 of those 600 orders go out with Toast Delivery Services:
- All within 6 miles on Uber Direct: 200 × $6.99 = $1,398 a month.
- All 9 to 10 miles out on Uber Direct: 200 × $9.99 = $1,998 a month.
- DoorDash Drive at 8 miles driving distance: $7.49 + 3 × $0.50 = $8.99 each, so 200 × $8.99 = $1,798 a month.
- In Seattle, add $5.00 per Uber Direct delivery: 200 × $5.00 = $1,000 more a month.
You can pass some or all of this to guests as a delivery fee. If you pass none of it, a $1,398 delivery bill takes the known Toast total from $771 to $2,169 a month before the add-on.
For comparison, the same 600 orders on Menuthere. Menuthere is an ordering system, not a POS, so this is only fair if you don't need Toast's till and kitchen hardware.
| Line | Menuthere Lite, monthly | Menuthere Lite, first year |
|---|---|---|
| Plan | $17 | $204 (or $170 billed yearly) |
| Per-order fee or commission | $0 | $0 |
| Card fees on your own Stripe account (2.9% + 30¢) | $702 | $8,424 |
| Setup | $0 | $0 |
| Total | $719 | $8,628 (or $8,594 billed yearly) |
Delivery on Menuthere is separate too. On Pro ($39 a month) you can use your own riders with a rider app, assigning each order by hand. Outside India you can also connect your own Uber Direct account: Uber bills you and the customer pays Uber's live fee at checkout. To compare delivery costs, try the own delivery cost calculator or read about in-house delivery for restaurants.
When is Toast worth the price?
- You need a full POS anyway. Toast gives you terminals, a kitchen display, handhelds and online ordering on one menu, so online orders print and fire like in-house orders. Menuthere has no POS hardware and no Toast integration.
- You want delivery drivers without hiring. Toast Delivery Services books Uber Direct or DoorDash Drive drivers from inside Toast at a published flat fee, with refunds handled through Toast.
- You want one support line. Toast includes 24/7 support, and its marketing, loyalty and gift card add-ons sit in the same system.
- You run several locations. Build Your Own and Toast's multi-location tools are made for groups.
Toast is less of a fit if you only want an online ordering page: you would pay for a POS plan, an add-on and setup before the first order.
How does Menuthere's pricing compare?
Menuthere publishes every price. Free is $0 with 50 orders a month and no card needed. Lite is $17 a month with unlimited orders, your own domain and card payments on your own Stripe account. Pro is $39 a month and adds loyalty and your own riders with a live tracking map for customers. There is 0% commission and no per-order fee on every plan, and no contract. Menuthere does not replace a POS: if you keep Toast for the till, Menuthere's orders do not flow into it. See Menuthere vs Toast, Toast alternatives and Menuthere pricing. For a POS-based option with published card rates, see Square Online pricing.
If you need a driver app for your own Toast drivers, Toast's own help centre points to Shipday; see Shipday alternatives.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Toast online ordering cost?
Toast does not publish one price. You need a Toast POS plan, from $0 a month on the pay-as-you-go Starter Kit or from $69 a month on Point of Sale, plus the Digital Storefront add-on, whose price Toast does not show on its pricing page (read October 20, 2026). Card processing, delivery fees, setup and hardware come on top.
Is Toast online ordering commission-free?
Yes, Toast charges no commission on orders from its own online ordering. Card processing still applies at Toast's card-not-present rate, which Toast does not publish, and deliveries through Toast Delivery Services cost a flat fee per order.
How much does Toast Delivery Services cost per delivery?
With Uber Direct, $6.99 under 6 miles, $8.74 for 6 to 8 miles, $9.49 for 8 to 9 miles and $9.99 for 9 to 10 miles. With DoorDash Drive, $7.49 within 5 miles plus $0.50 per extra mile up to 10. California, New York City and Seattle add a regulatory fee. Toast withholds these fees from your card payouts (Toast support, updated October 8, 2026).
Is there a setup fee for Toast online ordering?
Toast lists an Online Ordering Setup consult at $125. Installation costs $1,000 per on-site day or $800 per remote day, and hardware is the other upfront cost (Toast Onboarding Rates and Fees, updated September 2, 2026).
Can I use my own card processor with Toast?
Toast says it is a payment facilitator, and its services run only on approved Toast hardware, so card payments go through Toast. Online orders, including Apple Pay, are charged at Toast's card-not-present rate.
Is Menuthere cheaper than Toast for online ordering?
For online ordering alone, usually yes: Menuthere Lite is $17 a month with no per-order fee, and you pay Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢ on your own account. But Menuthere is not a POS and does not connect to Toast, so if you need terminals and a kitchen system, Toast does more.
