Can I send a verification code on WhatsApp to confirm a customer's order?
Updated 13 October 2026
Yes, with an authentication template on the WhatsApp API. It is the only template type for one-time codes. Most restaurants need no code at all, because a customer who messages first can be sent straight to the menu.
- Required type: if you send one-time passwords or verification codes on WhatsApp, Meta says you must use an authentication template.
- Preset text: the message reads “<code> is your verification code.” WhatsApp sets the wording.
- Optional lines: a security line (“For your security, do not share this code.”) and an expiry line.
- Button: the template has one button type: one-tap autofill, copy code, or none.
Order without typing a code
Customers send Hi to your own WhatsApp number and get an Order Now button that opens the menu already signed in. There is no code to type before ordering.
