Free burger menu template
Updated October 20, 2026
Open our free burger menu template, add your burgers, sides and shakes, and download a print-ready PDF or a counter board: it's the Bold board design, a dark board with an orange accent and a tall condensed heading, laid out for a smash-burger joint. No sign-up, no email and no watermark. Below: what's in it, the Food Code rule for burgers cooked to order (the Food Code uses hamburgers as its own example), and what ground beef prices did this year.
In short
- The template: Bold board layout, dark with orange, Bebas Neue heading; Burgers, Sides, Shakes.
- Ground beef must reach 155°F for 17 seconds under the FDA Food Code 2026, unless a customer orders it less done and you've given the consumer advisory.
- Kids' menus can't offer undercooked ground meat.
- Ground beef cost 5.4% more in September 2026 than a year earlier (BLS).
What's in the burger menu template
It opens as "Smoke & Stack", smash burgers and shakes.
| Section | Example items | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Burgers | Classic smash, Bacon BBQ, Crispy chicken, Veggie stack | Each with a one-line build |
| Sides | Fries (Regular / Large), Onion rings | Two sizes on one line |
| Shakes | Vanilla, chocolate or strawberry | One line for all flavors |
The dark board works well printed as a landscape counter board behind the register. For a sit-down pub with burgers on the menu, see the bar menu template.
Burgers cooked to order: the rules
The FDA Food Code 2026, which state and local health departments adopt in some edition, sets these for ground (comminuted) beef:
| Cooked to | For at least |
|---|---|
| 145°F | 3 minutes |
| 150°F | 1 minute |
| 155°F | 17 seconds |
| 158°F | under 1 second |
If a customer asks for a burger less done, you can serve it only if:
- You don't serve a highly susceptible population (such as a nursing home or a daycare).
- The burger isn't on a children's menu. The Food Code bars undercooked ground meat from kids' menus.
- You give the consumer advisory: a disclosure, such as the Food Code's own example "hamburgers (can be cooked to order)", or an asterisk to a footnote; plus a reminder, such as "Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness."
Smash burgers pressed thin and cooked through don't need the advisory. If you offer "medium rare", add it. The foot line in the menu maker is the place for it; see the kids' menu template for the children's rules.
Worked example: ground beef and your burger cost
US uncooked ground beef prices rose 5.4% in the 12 months to September 2026, more than beef overall (3.5%), while cheese fell 3.0% (BLS). Take the template's Classic smash at $9: two 3-oz patties.
| A year ago | Now | |
|---|---|---|
| Ground beef, per lb (example) | $5.00 | $5.27 (+5.4%) |
| 6 oz of beef | $1.88 | $1.98 |
| Bun, cheese, pickles, sauce (example) | $0.95 | $0.94 |
| Plate cost | $2.83 | $2.92 |
| Food cost at $9 | 31.4% | 32.4% |
A point of food cost on a best seller adds up. Cost your own burgers with the recipe cost calculator. The example prices are illustrations, not market prices.

FAQs
Is this burger menu template free?
Yes. Edit it and download it as a PDF or an image for free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
What temperature should a burger be cooked to?
Under the FDA Food Code 2026, ground beef should reach 155°F for 17 seconds, or 145°F for 3 minutes, 150°F for 1 minute or 158°F instantly. A customer can order it less done if you give a consumer advisory.
Do I need a consumer advisory for burgers?
Only if you serve burgers undercooked, such as medium rare on request. Then the menu needs a disclosure, like hamburgers can be cooked to order, and a reminder footnote about the risk.
Can I serve medium-rare burgers on a kids' menu?
No. The FDA Food Code doesn't allow undercooked ground meat to be offered from a children's menu.
Is there a burger menu template for Word?
The menu maker downloads PDFs and images, not Word files. Use the copy-ready layout on this page in Word or Google Docs.
