A pizza tracker for independent pizzerias
Updated October 20, 2026
An independent pizzeria can give customers a Domino's-style tracker without building one: put your drivers on a phone app, and send each customer a link to a live order page. Domino's says its Tracker has followed more than 2.5 billion orders since 2008, and its March 2026 update lets customers see when the order went in the oven, when the driver left the store, and the driver's GPS position. With Menuthere Pro ($39 a month), your own drivers use the Menuthere Delivery App on iPhone or Android, and once you dispatch an order the customer's order page shows On the way, the driver's name, an arrival estimate, a live map and a Call button. Customers don't install anything.
In short
- What customers expect: Domino's Tracker stages are now "placed", "make", "deliver" (or "pick up") and "mmm!", with GPS driver tracking.
- What you can run: order status plus a live map of your own driver, from the driver's phone, on Menuthere Pro.
- No app for the customer: the tracker is the order page they reach from their confirmation.
- Honest limits: the arrival time is a rough estimate from straight-line distance, and you assign each order to a driver yourself.
- No per-delivery fee from Menuthere, unlike courier networks at about $7–10 a trip.
What does the Domino's Tracker show?
From Domino's press release of March 24, 2026:
- Domino's launched its Tracker in 2008; it has followed more than 2.5 billion orders since.
- The new stages are "placed," "make," "deliver" or "pick up," and "mmm!", with more detail under each.
- Customers can see what time the order went in the oven, what time the driver left the store, track the driver via GPS and follow a car progress bar.
- A more precise ready time comes from an AI order-tracking engine using store team inputs; iPhone users get Live Activities on the lock screen.
That's the bar your customers carry in their heads. The useful part for an independent is simpler: a status they can trust and a driver they can see.
Domino's stages vs what an independent pizzeria can show
| Domino's Tracker stage | With Menuthere | Where the customer sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Placed | Order placed; it shows on the customer's order page | Order page; optional WhatsApp "Order placed" message |
| Make | You accept the order; you can mark food ready | Order page status; optional WhatsApp "Order accepted" and "Order food ready" messages |
| Deliver, with GPS | You assign your driver; the order is dispatched | On the way card: driver's name, arrival estimate, live map, Call button; optional WhatsApp "Order dispatched" message with a Track Order button |
| "mmm!" | The driver marks it delivered in the app | Order completes; optional WhatsApp "Order completed" message with a Reorder button |
| Oven time, AI ready time, Live Activities | Not available | — |
The WhatsApp messages are Menuthere Pro's six ready-made order flows, sent from your own number and switched off until you turn them on. In the US, Meta doesn't deliver WhatsApp marketing messages to +1 numbers, so WhatsApp sends order updates (utility messages, about US$0.0034 each) but not promotions; use email for offers. What does the customer see on the tracker?
- On the way, with your driver's name and a rough arrival estimate in minutes.
- A live map with the driver, your shop and the delivery address. A green Live tag shows how long ago the driver's position last updated; the page checks for a new position about every 3 seconds.
- Waiting for rider's location until the driver's phone shares a position.
- A Call button that phones the driver, so "where's my pizza?" calls go to the person holding it.
How the arrival estimate works: it's the straight-line distance from the driver to the address at about 25 km/h (about 15.5 mph), rounded to the minute. It doesn't know about traffic or one-way streets, so treat it as a guide, not a promise. Read more in can customers track my own rider live without an app.
What are the options for an independent pizzeria?
| Option | Live map of your own driver for the customer? | What it costs (read 20 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Menuthere Pro | Yes: order page with live map and Call button | $39 a month; no per-order or per-delivery fee |
| Slice POS | Slice says it monitors in-house drivers "with live GPS, status updates, and reporting"; customer-side tracking isn't described on that page | Complete Growth (POS) $99 a month + $2.00 per online or phone order, + $1,000 implementation (Slice pricing, Sep 2026) |
| Shipday on top of your ordering | Tracking link; SMS/WhatsApp notifications from Professional Lite | $29 a month for 300 orders + $0.06 each after; branded tracking page from $99 |
| Toast Delivery Mode | No: dispatches clocked-in staff, no driver app or map in Toast's article | Part of Toast; see Toast Delivery Mode |
| Square in-house delivery | No driver app or tracking in Square's article | No dispatch fee since Feb 2025; see Square own delivery drivers |
| Courier networks (Uber Direct, DoorDash Drive) | Yes, but it's their driver, not yours | About $6.99–$10 per delivery (Toast's published TDS rates) |
Worked example: tracking 400 deliveries a month
A two-driver pizzeria does 400 deliveries a month at a $28 average ticket, all online. Driver wages and mileage are the same with every software option; run them in the own delivery cost calculator.
| Set-up | Monthly cost for ordering + tracking |
|---|---|
| Menuthere Pro, with a WhatsApp "dispatched" message on every order (400 × $0.0034) | $39 + $1.36 = $40.36 |
| Slice Complete Growth, 400 orders × $2.00 | $99 + $800 = $899 (+ $1,000 once) |
| Your current ordering + Shipday Professional Lite ($29 + 100 × $0.06) | $35 + your ordering bill |
| No own drivers: 400 courier trips at $6.99 | $2,796 before tips |
What the numbers say:
- Tracking your own drivers is cheap; per-order fees aren't. Slice's $2.00 per order is $800 a month at this volume; a flat plan is $39.
- 400 courier trips cost about $2,800 before tips. That's the budget your own drivers' wages and mileage have to beat; the calculator shows whether they do at your volume.
- The WhatsApp line is a worst case: it's only paid when the message goes out as a utility template.
How do I set up a pizza tracker for my drivers?
- Create your ordering page and add your pizzas, sizes and toppings (online ordering for pizza).
- Upgrade to Pro and add your drivers in Settings → Ordering → Delivery boy settings, with a phone number and password for each.
- Get the Menuthere Delivery App on each driver's phone (App Store or Google Play) and sign them in.
- Dispatch an order: press Assign rider, pick an online driver, and the order is marked dispatched. The customer's page switches to On the way.
- Optional: connect your WhatsApp number and switch on the order flows so customers get a Track Order button.
- The driver marks it delivered in the app, and the order completes.
Full driver set-up, a Friday-night dispatch timeline and driver reports are on pizza delivery software.
What doesn't Menuthere's tracker do?
- No oven or make-line timestamps. There's no kitchen display feeding a "make" stage.
- No automatic dispatch, routes or batching. You assign each order to a driver by hand.
- No traffic-aware ETA. The estimate is straight-line distance at a set speed.
- No photo proof of delivery for your own drivers.
- No SMS. Customers follow the order page link, and on Pro, WhatsApp messages.
Give your customers a live driver map from your own pizzeria.
Frequently asked questions
Can a small pizzeria have a tracker like Domino's?
Yes, for the part customers use most: a live order status and a map of the driver. On Menuthere Pro ($39 a month), your drivers use the Menuthere Delivery App and the customer's order page shows the driver's name, an arrival estimate, a live map and a Call button, with no app to install.
Do my customers need to download an app to track their pizza?
No. The tracker is the order page they reach from their order confirmation. On Pro you can also send a WhatsApp message with a Track Order button when the order is dispatched.
How accurate is the arrival time?
It's a rough estimate: the straight-line distance from the driver to the address at about 25 km/h (15.5 mph). It doesn't account for traffic or road layout, so the live map is the better guide.
What do my delivery drivers need?
An iPhone or Android phone with the Menuthere Delivery App, and the phone number and password you set for them. Their location is shared while they're online, and they mark each order delivered in the app.
How much does a pizza delivery tracker cost?
On Menuthere it's part of the Pro plan at $39 a month, with no per-order or per-delivery fee. WhatsApp order updates, if you turn them on, are billed by Meta per message; in the US a utility update costs about $0.0034.
