WhatsApp ordering for tiffin services and daily meal kitchens
Updated October 20, 2026
WhatsApp ordering for a tiffin service means your regulars book tomorrow's meals from your WhatsApp number, repeat last week's order with one tap, and hear from you when they go quiet. With Menuthere, a customer writes "hi" or "reorder" to your kitchen's number and gets a button that opens your menu, signed in. Checkout only offers delivery days you cook, after your cut-off. Each order rings in your dashboard with its date, and "Prepare now" lists what's due within the hour. Customers who stop ordering can get one approved comeback message on WhatsApp. You pay 0% commission. Automatic WhatsApp from your own number is on the Pro plan (US$39 a month), and Meta charges per message on your own WhatsApp Business account.
In short
- Tomorrow, not today. "Start from tomorrow" and "Only made on" (Lite) keep orders inside your cooking days and cut-off.
- "Reorder" repeats the last order in one tap, signed in. The thank-you after each meal carries the same button.
- Quiet customers get one nudge. Comeback messages (Pro) go to customers who stop ordering, at most twice ever, never within 60 days of each other.
- Honest limit: Menuthere has no auto-renewing subscription or recurring billing. Each delivery day is an order; a weekly plan is sold as orders booked ahead.
- Price your plans first with the free tiffin price calculator.
What a daily meal service needs from WhatsApp
A restaurant wants new customers. A tiffin, dabba, tingkat or meal-prep kitchen wants the same 40 customers to order every weekday. That changes what the software has to do:
| A tiffin kitchen needs | What Menuthere does | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Orders by an evening cut-off for the next day | Prebooking with Start from tomorrow, fixed delivery slots such as 12:00 to 1:30 PM | Lite |
| Only the days you cook | Only made on for the meal dishes, such as Monday to Saturday | Lite |
| Today's menu only today | Set Time on each day's dish ("Monday thali" shows only on Mondays) | Free |
| Repeat orders with no typing | The Reorder flow: the customer types "reorder" and gets their last order with a one-tap button | Pro |
| A message when the meal leaves the kitchen | Order dispatched with a Track Order button, live map if your own rider carries it | Pro |
| Win back customers who stopped | Comeback messages to segments such as At risk and Lapsed | Pro, outside the US |
| A price per meal, week and month | The free tiffin price calculator and price card | Free tool |
A week in the kitchen, step by step
This is an illustrative week for a lunch tiffin kitchen on Pro, delivering Monday to Saturday with a 9:00 PM cut-off. Behaviors are Menuthere's; names, times and numbers are examples.
| When | What happens | Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday 7:30 PM | Priya messages "reorder". She gets last week's order (Veg lunch box ×1, total shown) and a Reorder button. | Reorder flow |
| Sunday 7:31 PM | Checkout offers Monday onward only, in the 12:00 to 1:30 PM slot. She books Monday. | Prebooking, Start from tomorrow |
| Sunday 9:05 PM | A customer tries to book Monday after your cut-off. Monday is no longer offered; Tuesday is. | Earliest booking time (for example 15 hours before the slot) |
| Monday 11:00 AM | The Prebookings tab shows a red Prepare now box for orders due within the hour | Scheduled orders |
| Monday 12:10 PM | Your rider leaves. Priya gets "Order Dispatched!" with the rider's details and Track Order. | Order dispatched flow, rider app |
| Monday 12:40 PM | Delivered and completed. The thank-you has a Reorder button for Tuesday. | Order completed flow |
| Day 35 of silence | A regular who used to order three times a week hasn't ordered in five weeks. She is now At risk, and an approved comeback message goes out. | Comeback messages (not to US numbers) |
Prices are always taken from your live menu at checkout. If your lunch box price changes on the 1st, an old "reorder" can't charge last month's price.
Weekly plans, pauses and skips: what Menuthere does and doesn't do
Be clear about this before you switch: Menuthere is ordering software, not subscription billing. There's no plan that renews itself every Monday and charges a card on file. Each delivery day is its own order.
How tiffin kitchens work with that:
- A week booked ahead. Customers can book days ahead, up to the limit you set in Book up to. Five lunch orders placed on Sunday are a week's plan, each with its own date. The Reorder button makes the next one quick.
- A skip is a cancelled order. A customer who won't be in on Wednesday tells you in the chat; you cancel that day's order while it's pending. For a simple cut-off and "skip + date" routine on the free WhatsApp Business app, read how tiffin customers pause or skip a day.
- A paid-up month, outside Menuthere. If customers pay you monthly in advance, record each order's payment as you settle it. Menuthere doesn't keep a prepaid balance.
- Plan sign-ups on the free route. The tiffin price calculator's Make my order form button starts a free WhatsApp order page with your plans filled in. Customers pick a plan and send it to your WhatsApp, already added up.
If you need true auto-renewing subscriptions with card billing, use subscription software for the billing and Menuthere for the daily menu, ordering and delivery messages.
What WhatsApp costs a tiffin kitchen per week
Meta charges per message, by category and the country code of the customer's number. Menuthere adds nothing; charges go on your own WhatsApp Business account.
A tiffin service's regulars write to you often, which helps: whenever a customer has written in the last 24 hours, your replies and order updates go as normal chat messages, which Meta counts as service. Each number gets 1,000 free service messages a month; Meta charges from the 1,001st. Outside that window, only approved templates get through: utility for order updates, marketing for comeback messages and offers, which is the costliest category.
| Message | Typical count | Meta category |
|---|---|---|
| "reorder" reply | 1 per booking | Service (the customer just wrote) |
| Order dispatched with Track Order | 1 per delivery | Service if the window is open; otherwise a utility template |
| Order completed with Reorder | 1 per delivery | Same as above |
| Comeback message | At most 2 per customer, ever | Marketing template |
Worked example (illustrative): 40 customers, 6 lunches a week each, 2 messages per delivery (dispatched, completed) plus one "reorder" reply per customer per week. That's 40 × 6 × 2 + 40 = 520 messages a week, about 2,250 a month. Customers who write every few days keep their window open, so most are service messages; the first 1,000 of the month are free. Switch off Order accepted and Order food ready to keep the count down; the dispatched message is the one a lunch customer waits for. Model your own numbers in the WhatsApp cost calculator.
Customers with US numbers: Meta does not deliver marketing templates to US (+1) numbers, so comeback messages and offers won't reach them. WhatsApp can send them order updates (utility, about US$0.0034 each) but not promotions; use email for offers. See WhatsApp ordering in the USA.
Comeback messages, set up for a meal service
Comeback messages pick their audience from Menuthere's customer segments, which follow each customer's ordering automatically:
| Segment | Rule | For a tiffin kitchen |
|---|---|---|
| Regulars | 5 or more orders, last one within 30 days | Leave them alone |
| At risk | 2 or more orders, nothing in 30 to 90 days | Worth one message: "New menu this month" |
| Lapsed | 2 or more orders, nothing in over 90 days | A real offer, or nothing |
| One-and-done | 1 order, nothing for 30 days | Ask what went wrong, in person |
The safety rules are built in: a customer gets at most 2 comeback messages ever, never within 60 days of each other; nobody is messaged after 180 days of silence; messages go out between 11 AM and 8 PM store time; and anyone who replied STOP is skipped. You need an approved marketing template first. Leave days quiet empty and each customer's own rhythm decides: a six-day-a-week customer is overdue much sooner than a monthly one.
Set up checklist
- Plan prices worked out in the tiffin price calculator, with a price card to send.
- Each day's meal added with Set Time, or one "Lunch box" dish with sizes (veg, non-veg, large).
- Prebooking on (Lite): fixed delivery slots, Start from tomorrow, Book up to 7 days.
- Delivery area set as a radius or zones you draw on the map, and a minimum order if you need one.
- WhatsApp number connected (Pro), with Reorder, Order dispatched and Order completed switched on. Flows start switched off.
- Comeback messages on for At risk, with an approved marketing template.
- Your riders on the rider app, so dispatched messages carry a live map.

Frequently asked questions
Can a tiffin service take orders on WhatsApp?
Yes. On every plan, customers can send a finished order from your menu to your WhatsApp in one tap. On Pro, your own number replies to "hi" and "reorder" with a signed-in menu link and sends delivery updates.
Can customers order tomorrow's tiffin after a cut-off?
Yes, on Lite and above. Turn on Start from tomorrow and set the earliest booking time, and checkout only offers delivery days that meet your cut-off. Only made on limits the meal to the days you cook.
Does Menuthere support tiffin subscriptions?
Not auto-renewing ones. There's no recurring billing or prepaid balance. Each delivery day is an order, customers can book several days ahead, and the Reorder button repeats their last order in one tap.
How do customers skip a day?
They tell you in the chat, and you cancel that day's order while it's pending. Agree a cut-off for skips, such as 9 PM the day before.
What are comeback messages?
Automatic WhatsApp marketing messages to customers who have stopped ordering, picked by segment such as At risk or Lapsed. A customer gets at most two, ever, and never within 60 days of each other. They need an approved template and the Pro plan.
Do comeback messages work for customers in the US?
No. Meta does not deliver marketing messages to US phone numbers. Order updates still work. Use email for offers to US customers.
How much do the WhatsApp messages cost?
Meta charges per message on your own WhatsApp Business account. Replies to customers who wrote in the last 24 hours are service messages, with 1,000 free a month per number. Menuthere adds nothing and takes 0% commission.
