Stripe integration: card payments on your ordering site, into your own Stripe account
Updated October 20, 2026
Menuthere connects to your own Stripe account, so customers pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay when they order from your website or QR menu, and the money lands in your Stripe balance. You connect in one click with Connect with Stripe, or by pasting a secret key. Stripe's own fees apply as usual. Menuthere takes 0% commission and adds no fee on top. Online payments start on the Lite plan ($17 a month), and Stripe is the gateway for stores outside India.
In short
- Your Stripe account, your money. Payments go into your Stripe balance and pay out on your Stripe schedule. Menuthere never holds the money.
- One click to connect. Log in on Stripe's own page and allow Menuthere. Menuthere never sees your Stripe password.
- Wallets included. Apple Pay and Google Pay show at checkout when they're on in your Stripe settings and the customer's device supports them.
- Stripe's fee only. In the US that's 2.9% + 30¢ per card payment; in Canada 2.9% + C$0.30 (Stripe, checked 20 Oct 2026).
- You decide where it applies: pay online, pay in cash, or both, separately for delivery, takeaway and dine-in.
What the Stripe integration does
| Part | What happens |
|---|---|
| Checkout | The customer chooses Pay online and pays on Stripe's checkout page, so card details are never typed into Menuthere. |
| Confirmation | Payments confirm instantly. With a secret key, Menuthere adds the webhook to your Stripe account for you. |
| The order | Shows as paid the moment the customer pays, with the method recorded. |
| Currency | You choose the currency on the Stripe card, matching your menu prices. If your Stripe account can't take that currency, you're told why. |
| Order types | Online and Cash switches for delivery, takeaway and dine-in. Table QR orders follow the dine-in row. |
| Pay after the meal | For dine-in you can let guests order first and pay once the order is completed. They get a Pay now button for 1 hour. |
| Settlements | Daily takings split into prepaid and cash. Stripe payouts themselves are in your Stripe dashboard. |
How to connect Stripe to Menuthere
- Open the online payment page. Go to Settings, Payments & tax, Payment Methods, turn on Online payment and press Configure. If your store's country is outside India, you land on the Stripe card.
- Check the currency and press Connect with Stripe. Make sure the Currency at the bottom of the card matches your menu prices, then press Connect with Stripe. Stripe's own page opens.
- Log in to Stripe or create an account. Log in, or create a Stripe account. Stripe asks for your business details and bank account on its own pages. Allow Menuthere to connect.
- Come back connected. Stripe sends you back and the card reads Connected. Online payment is on and payments confirm instantly.
- Choose where customers can pay online. On Payment Methods, set Online and Cash for delivery, takeaway and dine-in, then press Save.
Prefer a key? On the same card, under Or paste a secret key, paste your Stripe secret key (a live key starts with sk_live_), pick the currency and press Save key and turn on. A restricted key works too if it has Write access to Checkout Sessions and Webhook Endpoints. If you paste the publishable key (pk_) by mistake, the page asks for the secret one, and a test key shows "This is a test key, no real money will be taken". To test first, see how to test online payments.
What Stripe costs on a restaurant order
Stripe charges a percentage plus a fixed amount per successful card payment. In the US the standard rate is 2.9% + 30¢. The fixed 30¢ is why small orders pay more as a share:
| Order total | Stripe fee (US standard) | Fee as a share of the order |
|---|---|---|
| $12 coffee and pastry | $0.65 | 5.4% |
| $28 dinner for one | $1.11 | 4.0% |
| $60 family order | $2.04 | 3.4% |
| $120 catering tray | $3.78 | 3.2% |
A month, worked out: 400 online orders at an average of $28 cost about $445 in Stripe fees, plus $17 for Lite. On a delivery app at 25% commission, the same $11,200 of food would cost $2,800. Menuthere adds nothing to the Stripe fee.
Stripe's rates differ by country, card type and currency conversion. See our guides for the UK, Europe, Australia, the UAE and Malaysia and Thailand. For monthly or setup fees, see does Stripe charge a monthly or setup fee?
Where can a restaurant use Stripe with Menuthere?
Stripe is offered to every Menuthere store outside India, in any country where Stripe itself takes businesses. Stripe's global availability page lists Brazil, Mexico, the UK, the UAE, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, among others. It doesn't list Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Saudi Arabia or Pakistan (checked 20 Oct 2026).
No Stripe in your country? On the Stripe card, press Don't have Stripe? Tell us which gateway you use and pick yours: PayPal, Checkout.com, Tap Payments, Telr, PayTabs, Network International, HyperPay, Moyasar, Square, Adyen, SumUp or Mollie, or type another. This is a request only; it doesn't connect anything. Until a gateway exists for your country, customers pay in cash and you can record other payments by hand.
Stores in India use local payment gateways instead of Stripe.
Limits to know
- One gateway at a time. Saving another gateway makes it the live one.
- No Stripe in India with Menuthere. Indian stores connect a local gateway.
- New Stripe accounts can wait for review. The card shows Waiting for Stripe and online payment stays off until Stripe says your account is ready.
- Wallets depend on the device. Google Pay needs Chrome or Android with a saved card, and Apple Pay needs Safari, an iPhone or a Mac with a card in Apple Wallet. In-app browsers such as Instagram's or WhatsApp's show card entry only.
- No split bills or card pre-authorization. Each order is paid in full by one customer.
- Cash can't be switched off for the whole store, only per order type, so a store is never left with no way to be paid.

FAQs
Does Menuthere take a fee on Stripe payments?
No. Payments go through your own Stripe account and Stripe charges its own fee as usual. Menuthere takes 0% commission and adds nothing on top.
Which Menuthere plan do I need for Stripe?
Online payments start on Lite, which costs $17 a month. The Free plan takes cash and pay-at-store orders only.
How much does Stripe charge a US restaurant?
Stripe's standard US rate is 2.9% + 30¢ per successful card payment, so a $28 order costs about $1.11. Rates differ in other countries.
Can customers pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay?
Yes, when the wallet is turned on in your Stripe settings and the customer's device supports it. In-app browsers such as Instagram's or WhatsApp's show card entry only.
When do I get the money?
Stripe pays out to the bank account on your Stripe account, on Stripe's own schedule. Menuthere shows your daily takings, and you follow payouts in your Stripe dashboard.
Can an Indian restaurant use Stripe with Menuthere?
No. Stores in India connect a local payment gateway instead. Stripe is for stores outside India.
What if Stripe isn't available in my country?
Tell Menuthere which gateway you use from the Stripe card. It's a request, not a connection, so until a gateway is added for your country customers pay in cash.
