Uber Direct integration: Uber couriers for orders from your own website
Updated October 20, 2026
Menuthere connects to your own Uber Direct account, so an Uber courier can deliver orders placed on your Menuthere website or QR menu. At checkout the customer sees Uber's live delivery fee. A courier is booked when you accept the order (or when the food is ready), and the order moves to Dispatched and Completed by itself as the courier picks up and drops off. Uber bills your Uber Direct account for each delivery. Menuthere adds no per-delivery fee, and the integration works on every plan, Free included. It's available for stores outside India, because Uber Direct doesn't deliver in India.
In short
- Your account, your contract. You sign up with Uber Direct yourself and paste three keys into Menuthere. Uber bills you; Menuthere never touches the delivery money.
- The customer pays Uber's live fee. Checkout asks Uber for a price for that address and adds it as the delivery charge. If Uber can't quote the address, your own delivery pricing is used.
- Booked once, at the moment you choose: when you accept the order, when the food is ready, or only when you tap Book.
- Live status without typing: pickup moves the order to Dispatched, drop-off to Completed, and the customer gets a Track your courier link.
- Uber's price: Uber says Uber Direct starts "as low as" US$7.99 (CA$9.99) a delivery, with no startup costs, commissions or monthly minimums (checked 20 Oct 2026).
What is Uber Direct?
Uber Direct is Uber's delivery service for businesses that take orders on their own website, app or phone. Uber's couriers carry the order, and you keep the customer, the menu and the prices. You don't need to be on the Uber Eats marketplace to use it. Uber says it's available in about two dozen countries and prices each delivery by order type, distance, speed and market (Uber merchant site, checked 20 Oct 2026).
Uber offers three ways in: its own dashboard, its API, or a platform partner that's already connected. Menuthere connects through the API with your keys, so orders from your Menuthere store are booked without retyping.
What happens on an order
| Moment | What Menuthere does |
|---|---|
| The customer enters a delivery address | Asks Uber for a live price. Delivery Charges shows Uber's fee, added to the total. |
| Uber can't quote that address | Falls back to your own delivery pricing, so the order can still be placed. |
| The order reaches your trigger | Books one Uber courier. Each order is booked once, so it's never billed twice. |
| The courier picks up | Moves the order to Dispatched. |
| The courier delivers | Moves the order to Completed. |
| You cancel the order | Cancels the Uber courier too. |
On your order screen, a delivery order shows an Uber Direct card with the booking status, the courier's name, car and phone number with its PIN, Uber's fee and a Track link. Book Uber courier books by hand, Book again retries a failed booking, and Cancel courier stands it down. Your customer sees Track your courier on their order page.
How to connect Uber Direct to Menuthere
You need an Uber Direct business account first. Then:
- Get your keys from Uber. Sign in at direct.uber.com with your Uber Direct business account and open Developer, then API Keys. Copy the Customer ID, Client ID and Client secret. Uber shows test keys and production keys separately.
- Connect them in Menuthere. Go to Settings, Integrations, Uber Direct and press Connect Uber Direct. Paste the three keys, choose Test or Production and press Connect. Menuthere checks the keys with Uber before saving them, and the client secret is stored encrypted.
- Add the webhook in Uber. Copy the address under Live courier updates and add it in direct.uber.com under Developer, then Webhooks, so courier updates reach your orders as they happen.
- Choose when a courier is booked. In Settings, Ordering, Delivery settings, set Book a courier when to Order accepted, Food ready or Only when I tap Book. You can add a note for the courier at pickup.
You can test before going live. Connect Uber's test keys and choose Test: test deliveries are never charged, and Uber's test courier moves the order through pickup and delivery in a few minutes. Switch to production keys when you're ready.
What it costs: a worked example
Here's a US restaurant doing 120 delivery orders a month at an average of $32 in food. The Uber Direct fee uses Uber's published starting price; your real quotes depend on distance and market.
| On the Uber Eats marketplace (Plus, 25%) | Your own site + Uber Direct | |
|---|---|---|
| Commission on $32 of food | $8.00 an order | $0 (Menuthere takes 0%) |
| Delivery | Part of the marketplace plan | Customer pays Uber's quote, from $7.99; Uber bills you the delivery |
| Card fee | Inside the marketplace's cut | Stripe, 2.9% + 30¢ on $39.99 = $1.46 |
| Software | None | Lite, $17 a month (to take card payments) |
| A month, 120 orders | $960 in commission | $175 in card fees + $17 = about $192 |
In this example the restaurant keeps about $768 a month more, assuming Uber bills the same fee it quoted at checkout. The trade-off is reach: the marketplace brings new customers, while Uber Direct only delivers orders you already won. Many restaurants keep the marketplace for discovery and move regulars to their own site. Run your own figures with the free own delivery cost calculator, and see US marketplace rates on the US delivery app commission hub.
Card payments run through your own Stripe account. See the Stripe integration.
Uber Direct or your own drivers?
| Uber Direct | Your own drivers (Menuthere rider app) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who delivers | Uber's courier network | People you employ |
| Cost per delivery | Uber's quote, paid by the customer at checkout | Wages, mileage and insurance, paid by you |
| Plan | Every plan | Pro ($39 a month) |
| Tracking | Uber's Track link on the order page | Live map on the order page from the rider app |
| Best for | Uneven or low volume, far drops, nights without a driver | Short, frequent deliveries |
The in-house delivery guide does the full US cost comparison, and the rider app page shows how your own drivers work.
Limits to know
- Not in India. Uber Direct doesn't deliver in India, so Menuthere shows it only to stores whose country is outside India.
- One price rule while it's on. With Uber Direct switched on, checkout prices delivery with Uber's live quote. If you also hand some orders to your own drivers, those customers still see Uber's quote, and outside India there's no rule that sends near orders to your drivers and far ones to Uber.
- Uber sets the service. Delivery radius, item rules and courier availability are Uber's. Where Uber can't quote, your own pricing takes over and you deliver the order another way.
- No proof-of-delivery photos in Menuthere. Follow the trip in Uber's Track link or in direct.uber.com.

FAQs
Does Menuthere charge a fee per Uber Direct delivery?
No. Uber bills your own Uber Direct account for each delivery, and the customer pays Uber's fee to you as the delivery charge at checkout. Menuthere adds nothing per delivery.
Which plan do I need for Uber Direct?
The Uber Direct integration is on every plan, Free included. To take card payments at checkout you need Lite, which costs $17 a month, with your own Stripe account.
Do I need to be on Uber Eats to use Uber Direct?
No. Uber Direct is Uber's delivery service for orders from your own website, app or phone, and it doesn't need an Uber Eats marketplace listing.
Can I use Uber Direct in India?
No. Uber Direct doesn't deliver in India, so Menuthere shows it only to stores outside India. Stores in India can book Porter or Rapido riders or ship with Shiprocket instead.
What happens if Uber can't deliver to an address?
Checkout falls back to your own delivery pricing, so the customer can still order. You then deliver that order another way, for example with your own driver.
Can I test Uber Direct before real deliveries?
Yes. Connect Uber's test keys and choose Test. Test deliveries are never charged, and Uber's test courier moves the order through pickup and delivery in a few minutes.
Who handles a late or damaged Uber delivery?
The delivery is between you and Uber on your own account, so raise it with Uber through direct.uber.com. Menuthere shows the courier's details and the Track link on the order.
