Free Chinese restaurant menu template
Updated October 20, 2026
Open our free Chinese restaurant menu template, add your dishes and prices, and download a print-ready PDF for the table or the takeout bag: it's the Ledger design in red with a serif heading and dotted price leaders, numbered dishes from appetizers to noodles, and pint and quart sizes on the rice and lo mein. No sign-up, no email and no watermark. Below: why numbers help, how to price pints and quarts, and the honest way to write about MSG and allergens.
In short
- The template: Ledger layout, red, Playfair heading; Appetizers, Mains, Rice and noodles, dishes numbered 1 to 10.
- Pint and quart: a quart is 32 fl oz, twice a pint, so the quart should cost less per ounce.
- MSG: the FDA lists added MSG as "generally recognized as safe", and doesn't allow "No MSG" on packaged foods made with ingredients that contain free glutamate, such as hydrolyzed vegetable protein or yeast extract.
- Allergens: soy and wheat (soy sauce), sesame, peanuts, crustacean shellfish and eggs are FDA major allergens. Oyster sauce is a mollusk, which isn't.
What's in the Chinese menu template
It opens as "Golden Lantern, Szechuan and Cantonese".
| Section | Example dishes | Sizes |
|---|---|---|
| Appetizers | 1. Pork dumplings, 2. Vegetable spring rolls, 3. Scallion pancake | One price |
| Mains | 4. Kung pao chicken ("Contains peanuts"), 5. Mapo tofu, 6. Beef and broccoli, 7. Salt and pepper shrimp | One price |
| Rice and noodles | 8. House fried rice, 9. Dan dan noodles, 10. Vegetable lo mein | Pint / Quart on the rice and lo mein |
The numbers are part of each dish name, so they print in the same place on every page and match your tickets. For a general takeout menu with wings and combos, see the takeout template.
Why number the dishes?
- Phone orders are faster. "Two number 4s and a quart of 8" is hard to mishear.
- Keep the numbers when the menu changes. Retire a number with the dish rather than renumbering everything, so regulars' orders still work.
- Print the number on the online menu too. Menuthere shows the dish name as you type it, so "4. Kung pao chicken" reads the same on the ordering page and the ticket.
Worked example: pint vs quart
A US pint is 16 fl oz and a quart is 32 fl oz. The template's fried rice is $9 a pint and $14 a quart.
| Pint | Quart | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 16 fl oz | 32 fl oz |
| Price | $9.00 | $14.00 |
| Price per fl oz | 56.3¢ | 43.8¢ |
| Example food and container cost | $1.70 | $3.10 |
| Food cost | 18.9% | 22.1% |
| Left after cost | $7.30 | $10.90 |
The quart is the better deal for the guest and still earns $3.60 more for you. US rice, pasta and cornmeal prices rose 4.3% in the 12 months to September 2026 (BLS); the costs above are examples.
MSG and allergens: what to print
MSG. The FDA considers added monosodium glutamate "generally recognized as safe". On packaged food it must be listed as "monosodium glutamate", and a "No MSG" or "No added MSG" claim isn't allowed when the food contains ingredients with free glutamate, such as hydrolyzed vegetable protein or yeast extract. A menu isn't a package label, but the honest test is the same: print "No MSG added" only if neither you nor your sauces add it, and don't print "No MSG" if your sauces contain those ingredients.
Allergens. Food codes based on the FDA Food Code ask for written notice of the major food allergens in unpackaged food (§ 3-602.12).
| Ingredient | FDA major allergen? |
|---|---|
| Soy sauce | Yes: soy, and wheat in many soy sauces (check the label) |
| Sesame oil, sesame paste | Yes: sesame (the ninth, since January 1, 2023) |
| Peanuts (kung pao) | Yes |
| Shrimp, crab | Yes: crustacean shellfish |
| Eggs (fried rice, egg rolls) | Yes |
| Fish sauce | Yes: fish |
| Oyster sauce | No: oysters are mollusks, not crustaceans. Name them anyway; many guests with shellfish allergies avoid both |
Menuthere's dish tags include Molluscs as well as Crustaceans, so both can show on your online menu. Print a chart for staff with the allergen chart maker.

FAQs
Is this Chinese menu template free?
Yes. Edit it and download it as a PDF or an image for free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
How big is a pint and a quart of Chinese food?
A US pint container holds 16 fluid ounces and a quart holds 32. Price the quart below twice the pint so it's the better deal per ounce.
Can I write No MSG on my menu?
Only if it's true. The FDA doesn't allow No MSG claims on packaged foods made with ingredients that contain free glutamate, such as hydrolyzed vegetable protein or yeast extract. Use No MSG added if you don't add it and your sauces don't contain those ingredients.
Is oyster sauce a shellfish allergen?
Oysters are mollusks. The FDA's major allergens include crustacean shellfish, such as shrimp and crab, but not mollusks. Many guests with shellfish allergies avoid both, so name oyster sauce on your menu.
Is there a Chinese menu template for Word?
The menu maker downloads PDFs and images, not Word files. Use the copy-ready layout on this page in Word or Google Docs.
