July 2027 food holidays and promotion ideas for restaurants

July 2027 opens with Independence Day on Sunday, July 4 (the federal holiday is Monday, July 5), and peaks with National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 18. Baseball's All-Star Game is at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Tuesday, July 13, and National Hot Dog Day follows on Wednesday, July 21. The FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil runs all month, with the final on Sunday, July 25. July is also the hottest month for outdoor food, so plan for the 1-hour rule.

July 2027 at a glance

Most food days come from National Day Calendar, a private registry, so treat them as marketing hooks, not official holidays. National Ice Cream Day is the exception: it started with a presidential proclamation in 1984.

Month-long observances

• National Ice Cream Month. President Reagan's Proclamation 5219, signed July 9, 1984, after Senate Joint Resolution 298, named July 1984 National Ice Cream Month and July 15, 1984, National Ice Cream Day. GovInfo describes the day as the third Sunday of July, which is July 18 in 2027.
• National Hot Dog Month, National Picnic Month and National Grilling Month (National Day Calendar).

Which July dates are worth a promotion?

The Fourth of July weekend, July 3–5

Most people host at home, so sell the cookout: meat by the pound, cookout packs and picnic boxes. Everything you need is in the Fourth of July menu templates, including a costed brisket example. Post holiday hours for Sunday the 4th and Monday the 5th with the free closed sign maker. Ready line: "Fourth of July BBQ: order by Wed 6/30 for pickup Sat 7/3 or Sun 7/4."

Sunday, July 18: National Ice Cream Day

Ice cream shops, dessert bars and restaurants with a dessert menu get a day with a real presidential pedigree. Run a sundae special in the shop and pints or sundae kits to go. Keep the special to the day itself and sell take-home pints all month. Ready line: "National Ice Cream Day is Sun 7/18: build-your-own sundaes and pints to go."

Tuesday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 21: ballpark food

The All-Star Game is at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, July 13, with the Home Run Derby the night before. A ballpark menu (hot dogs, pretzels, nachos) works for both nights, and National Hot Dog Day eight days later is an easy encore. Ready line: "All-Star night: ballpark combos to go, Tue 7/13. Hot dog deal on National Hot Dog Day, Wed 7/21."

Promo copy you can paste

Email to your own list (send from your email tool):

Pop-up banner on your menu: "National Ice Cream Day, Sun 7/18: sundae kits for 4, order ahead." Announcement bar (under 100 characters): "Sundae Sunday 7/18: National Ice Cream Day. Sundae kits for 4 to go" Social caption: "Three scoops, hot fudge, whipped cream, a cherry on top. National Ice Cream Day is Sunday, July 18. Link in bio for kits."

Under CAN-SPAM, a promo email needs an honest subject line, your valid postal address and a clear way to opt out, and you must honor opt-outs within 10 business days (FTC). If your customers order on WhatsApp, keep it for order updates: Meta does not deliver marketing template messages to US (+1) phone numbers, so in the US WhatsApp sends order updates (utility messages, about US$0.0034 each), not promotions. Use email for offers. More in WhatsApp ordering for US restaurants.

Worked example: a National Ice Cream Day sundae

These are example figures only. Use your own costs and scoop sizes.

At a 25% target cost, $2.40 ÷ 0.25 = $9.60, so a price of $8.99 puts cost at 26.7% and $9.50 at 25.3%. Three hundred sundaes at $8.99 over a five-hour afternoon bring in $2,697 against $720 of ingredients. That's 60 sundaes an hour, one a minute, so it's the scooping line, not the freezer, that sets your limit: put a second person on toppings and keep the menu to one build. Try other prices in the menu price calculator.

How to run July promotions in Menuthere

1. Put the summer menu online (Free). Add sundaes, kits and the ballpark combos with sizes, or upload a photo or PDF of your printed menu; AI reads the dishes and prices for you to check. 0% commission on every plan.
2. Show the special only when it runs (Free). "Show dishes at set times" shows a dish on chosen weekdays between set times, for example Sundays from noon to 9 pm. It works by weekday, not date, so switch the sundae special off after July 18. See show dishes at set times.
3. Take kit pre-orders (Lite, US$17 a month). Turn on Prebooking, choose Specific items and tick the sundae kit, set the Earliest booking time to 1 day and Only made on to Sunday.
4. Run a Hot Dog Day code (Lite). A discount code can be limited to dates and weekdays, with a minimum order and a use limit, but not to a time of day. See limits, days and validity.
5. Announce it (Lite). Schedule a pop-up banner for each play. For posters, the festival poster maker has Fourth of July (US); for Ice Cream Day or Hot Dog Day, pick General offer.
6. Deliver with your own drivers (Pro, US$39 a month). The rider app runs on iOS and Android, and customers get a live tracking link. You assign each order with one tap. See the rider app. In July heat, keep delivery radius short for anything frozen.

Customers pay the full amount online by card through Stripe, into your own account, and sales tax shows as "Sales tax" at checkout. With a Branded App you can send app users a push notification on the morning of July 18. See pricing and pre-orders and table booking.

Pre-orders and table booking start on Lite, with a 7-day free trial (a card is needed to start; nothing is charged until the trial ends).

Food safety in the heat. USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service says perishable food shouldn't be left out for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour when it's above 90°F. Put that line on every to-go label in July.
