Food label maker

Make printable labels for food you pack and sell: product name, ingredients in order, allergens, net weight, dates, your business details and an optional nutrition panel you fill in. Four designs at round 2 in, 2 × 3 in and 4 × 6 in, on an A4 or US Letter sheet or one per page for a label printer. You are responsible for what your label must say where you sell. This tool lays out what you type.

You are responsible for what your label must say where you sell. This tool lays out what you type. It doesn't check it against your country's rules.
1The product

In order, the one you use most first (by weight). Put what's inside a sauce or a chocolate in brackets after it.

As you want it printed, for example 340 g, or 12 oz (340 g).

2Allergens

We suggest allergens from the words in your ingredients. Check every one against your own recipe and your suppliers' labels.

Only if there is a real risk, for example nuts used in the same kitchen.

3Dates

Dates print as "20 Oct 2026", which reads the same in every country.

4Your business

Anything else you want on the label, such as a batch number or a line your local rules ask for.

5Nutrition (optional)
6Size and look

Your label is kept in this browser until you start a new one. It is not sent anywhere.

How it works

  1. 1

    Type your product

Name, ingredients in order (most first), net weight and storage. Tick the allergens: we suggest them from your ingredients.

  2. 2

    Add dates and your details

Made-on and best-before dates, your business name and address, a logo if you have one, and nutrition values if you have them.

  3. 3

    Pick a size and print

Choose round, 2 × 3 in or 4 × 6 in and one of four designs. Download a PDF sheet of labels and print it at 100%.

What goes on a food label

Rules differ by country, by state and by the kind of food, so check with your local food authority. Here is what two official sources list for packaged food.

  • United States (FDA): besides nutrition labeling, the mandatory information is the statement of identity (the name of the food), net quantity of contents, the ingredient statement, and the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or distributor. Ingredients go in descending order of predominance by weight.
  • United Kingdom (GOV.UK): the name of the food, a best before or use-by date if required, net quantity, the ingredients if there is more than one, any special storage conditions, and a name and address, among others. Ingredients go in order of weight, main ingredient first, under a heading with the word "Ingredients".

Selling from home in the US? FDA tells home-based food businesses to learn the regulations of FDA and of their state and local health department. State and local rules apply on top of FDA rules, so ask your state or local health department what your label must say.

Allergens on the label

  • UK and EU (14): highlight allergens in the ingredients list with a different font, style or background colour. Turn on Bold the allergens in the ingredients.
  • US (9): milk, eggs, fish, Crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. Name them in brackets after the ingredient or in a "Contains" statement. For tree nuts, fish and shellfish, name the type. The Contains: line adds the nut or fish from your ingredients.

Food made and packed in the same shop in the UK (prepacked for direct sale)? Use our PPDS allergen label maker, which follows those rules.

Questions owners ask

Answered, plainly.

We can't tell you that. The tool prints what you type and never checks it against a law. Rules differ by country, state and kind of food, so check with your local food authority before you sell.

You can add a simple nutrition table with values you type, on the 4 × 6 in label. The tool doesn't work out nutrition from your ingredients. It is not the US Nutrition Facts panel or the UK and EU nutrition declaration format.

Some are exempt. FDA has a small business nutrition labeling exemption, with notice rules for low-volume products. The exemption covers nutrition only: the name, net quantity, ingredients and business name and address are still required. Read FDA's page linked below.

Round 2 in (51 mm), 2 × 3 in and 4 × 6 in. The PDF fills an A4 or US Letter sheet with as many labels as fit, with gaps to cut, or puts one label on each page for a label printer. Print at 100% (actual size).

It looks for allergen words in your ingredients, such as butter, walnuts or wheat, and asks you to tick them. It can miss some, like a sauce bought in, so check every allergen against your recipe and your suppliers' labels.

Yes, in this browser on this device, including your logo. Nothing is sent to us and you don't need an account.
