Easter menu templates for UK restaurants, pubs and bakeries
Updated 20 October 2026
Easter Sunday 2027 is 28 March, with bank holidays on Good Friday 26 March and Easter Monday 29 March in England and Wales, so plan a four-day weekend rather than a single lunch. Restaurants and pubs need a Sunday lunch, a brunch and a Good Friday fish menu; bakeries need a pre-order list for hot cross buns, simnel cake and eggs. Each template here is free: lift the wording into Google Docs, Word or the free printable menu maker.
Easter 2027 and 2028: the four-day weekend
| 2027 | 2028 | |
|---|---|---|
| Maundy Thursday (not a bank holiday) | 25 March | 13 April |
| Good Friday (bank holiday across the UK) | 26 March | 14 April |
| Easter Sunday | 28 March | 16 April |
| Easter Monday | 29 March | 17 April |
GOV.UK lists Easter Monday as a bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but not in Scotland, where Good Friday is the Easter bank holiday. Two more things to note for 2027: the clocks go forward at 1am on Easter Sunday itself, so a 10:00 brunch will feel like 9:00 to your team, and Mothering Sunday falls three weeks earlier, on 7 March (see our Mother's Day templates).
| Day (2027) | What it usually means for you |
|---|---|
| Thursday 25 March | Bakery collections begin; rota finalised. |
| Good Friday 26 March | Fish menu; peak day for hot cross buns. |
| Saturday 27 March | Last bakery collections; prep Sunday's roast. |
| Easter Sunday 28 March | Lunch sittings and brunch, one hour less sleep. |
| Easter Monday 29 March | Bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland: set your hours. |

Allergens, labelling and VAT at Easter
- Allergens. Chocolate eggs usually contain milk and often soya, and some carry "may contain nuts" warnings. Simnel cake contains almonds in the marzipan, plus egg, wheat and milk. Hot cross buns contain wheat and usually milk, and some recipes use egg or soya. On the fish menu, tartare sauce contains egg and often mustard, and battered fish brings wheat. Record each item from its recipe: see the 14 allergens guide.
- Pre-packed bakery boxes (PPDS). A bag of six buns or a boxed simnel cake that you pack before anyone asks for it, and sell from your own shop or market stall, is prepacked for direct sale. It needs a label with the food's name and the full ingredients, allergens emphasised. Packing a box once an order comes in isn't PPDS, though you still owe customers allergen information, and for online orders it must be available before they pay and when they collect. The Natasha's Law guide goes deeper, and our free allergen label maker prints PPDS labels.
- VAT. HMRC's Notice 701/14 zero-rates most bakery products (bread products and cakes, including fruit cakes) when they aren't sold in the course of catering, but chocolates are standard-rated, which takes in chocolate Easter eggs. Under Notice 709/1, food heated to order, such as a toasted teacake, is standard-rated, and so is anything eaten on your premises. The notices don't name hot cross buns, so if you sell them toasted or for eating in, check with your accountant. See our VAT on takeaway food guide.

Run Easter through Menuthere
- Bakery pre-orders (Lite). In Prebooking settings, switch on takeaway prebooking, let customers pick Date & time, and set the Date range to 25–27 March with fixed collection times. Under Applies to, pick Specific items and tick the Easter range. Set the Earliest booking time to 1 day and Only made on to Thursday, Friday and Saturday. One notice setting covers every ticked item, so either set the notice your slowest item needs or mark simnel cakes out of stock once their orders close. A basket that mixes Easter items with everyday bakes is asked to split the order. Pre-orders land in the Prebookings tab, where the Prepare now box shows what's due next.
- Easter Sunday bookings (Lite). Open 28 March for table booking with lunch time slots and Ask number of people. You're sent a push notification an hour before each table.
- The Good Friday fish special. "Show dishes at set times" works by weekday and time, not by date, so a fish menu set for Fridays will reappear every Friday. Switch it off after Good Friday, or simply switch the dishes on for the day and off again.
- Discount codes by date (Lite). An early-bird code for bun pre-orders can run from 8 to 21 March only, with a minimum order. Codes follow weekdays and dates, never a time of day.
- Tell your customers. Schedule a pop-up banner (Lite) for the pre-order window, and put a QR code on the counter. A branded app of your own lets you push an alert to its users on the morning bun orders open.
Everything above runs on Lite (US$17 a month, charged in US dollars), and no order carries commission. Try it free for 7 days first; a card is needed to start, and there's no charge before the trial is over. See pricing, and how guests reserve on our table booking page.

FAQs
When is Easter 2027?
Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027. Good Friday is 26 March and Easter Monday is 29 March. In 2028 Easter Sunday is 16 April.
Is Easter Monday a bank holiday in Scotland?
No. GOV.UK lists Easter Monday as a bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland only. Good Friday is a bank holiday in all four nations.
What should an Easter Sunday menu include?
A two- or three-course lunch with a roast such as lamb, a vegetarian or vegan main, a children's price and a spring dessert. A brunch menu is worth adding too; in 2027 the clocks go forward that morning, so start brunch a little later.
When should a bakery open hot cross bun pre-orders?
About two to three weeks before Good Friday. For Easter 2027 that means opening around 8 March and closing each day's orders the afternoon before the bake.
Are hot cross buns and Easter eggs zero-rated for VAT?
HMRC zero-rates most bakery products sold cold to take away, but chocolates are standard-rated, which includes chocolate Easter eggs. Food heated to order or eaten on the premises is standard-rated, so check toasted buns with your accountant.
Can I run a Good Friday-only special on my online menu?
Yes, but the "Show dishes at set times" setting works by weekday, so a Friday fish special would repeat every Friday. Switch the dishes on for Good Friday and off again afterwards.
