Do I need a POS or just a QR menu and orders?
By the Menuthere editorial team · Updated
It depends on what you run. A POS (Last.app, Glop, Ágora, Qamarero, Camarero10 in Spain; Parrot, Soft Restaurant in Mexico) runs the till, floor, kitchen, inventory and invoicing (Verifactu or CFDI), with hardware, from about €20–175/month or MXN 800–2,800/month. A QR menu with orders (Menuthere) handles the menu and your commission-free orders from $0. Most places use both. Updated October 2026.
- You need a POS if you run a floor with waiters, a kitchen, inventory and certified invoicing (Verifactu or CFDI).
- A QR menu with orders is enough if you only want a digital menu and to take your own orders with no commission.
- A POS costs from about €20–175/month (Spain) or MXN 800–2,800/month (Mexico), sometimes with setup and hardware.
- Menuthere's QR menu with orders starts at $0 (Free plan) with 0% commission.
- Menuthere does not replace a POS: many use the POS for invoicing and the floor, and Menuthere for their own orders.
The menu and orders, commission-free
Menuthere covers the QR menu and your own orders (table, pickup and delivery) with 0% commission and a Free plan. It works alongside your POS: you invoice with the POS and take direct orders without paying a percentage.
What does a POS do, and a QR menu with orders?
A POS is the till-and-floor system: it takes payment, prints receipts, sends tickets to the kitchen, controls inventory and issues the invoicing the law requires (Verifactu in Spain, CFDI in Mexico), usually with hardware. A QR menu with orders is the customer-facing layer: the digital menu, the QR on the table and your own orders (table, pickup, delivery) with no commission. They are different things.
| Need | POS | QR menu + orders (Menuthere) |
|---|---|---|
| Till, floor, kitchen and inventory | Yes | No |
| Verifactu / CFDI invoicing | Yes (certified) | No |
| QR menu | Sometimes, at extra cost | Yes (Free) |
| Commission-free own orders | Sometimes, at extra cost | Yes, 0% |
| Entry price | €20–175/mo or MXN 800–2,800/mo | $0 (Free) |
When is a QR menu with orders enough?
When your priority is a digital menu and taking your own orders, not running a floor with waiters or invoicing with certified software. A small bar, a café, a bakery on order or a cloud kitchen usually gets by with Menuthere's QR menu and orders, at $0 on Free and 0% commission, with no hardware to buy and no high monthly fee.
Can I use a POS and Menuthere at once?
Yes, and it is the usual setup in a restaurant with a floor. The POS handles the till, the order tickets and the certified invoicing; Menuthere handles the QR menu and your own commission-free orders, which land in your dashboard. So you invoice as the law requires and, at the same time, stop losing a percentage on the direct orders that could otherwise go to an app.
- The POS: till, floor, kitchen, inventory and invoicing (see POS and Verifactu).
- Menuthere: a QR menu and your own commission-free orders.

Who this is a good fit for
- Places that already have or want a POS and also want a QR menu and their own commission-free orders.
- Small places, cafés or cloud kitchens whose priority is the menu and orders, not the floor.
- Owners who want to start free on the ordering side and add or keep a POS when they need it.
Who this is not for
- Anyone who thinks Menuthere replaces a POS: it does not run the till, inventory, kitchen or certified invoicing.
- Large table-service restaurants that need order tickets, kitchen printers and hardware: that is a POS.
