For Irish restaurants and takeaways

Online ordering system for restaurants and takeaways in Ireland

An online ordering system lets customers order and pay on your own website, so you keep the order and the customer. Menuthere gives restaurants, takeaways and cafés in Ireland one menu for collection, delivery and table orders, with prices in euro and 0% commission on every plan.

Free plan: 50 orders a month and 0% commission. Paid plans from US$17 a month. Find your restaurant on Google to start.

What it does

What an online ordering system does for an Irish takeaway

It has two halves. The customer side is a mobile-friendly menu on your own link or domain: customers pick dishes, sizes and extras, choose collection or delivery, and pay by card or on collection. The kitchen side is where orders land, on a dashboard, a phone app and a kitchen printer, so staff can accept, cook and mark the order ready.

The difference from Just Eat, Deliveroo or Uber Eats is who owns the customer. On an app, the platform keeps the relationship and takes a share of every order, plus 23% VAT on that share. On your own system, the customer orders from you and you see their name and number. Most Irish owners keep the apps for new customers and use their own page for regulars.

  • 0% commission on every plan. Card payments go to your own Stripe account.
  • Euro prices with Ireland's VAT rates set per dish: 9% hot food, 0% cold food, 23% soft drinks.
  • Collection, delivery and table orders from one menu.

What the apps charge

What Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo charge in Ireland

Published or reported rates, checked in September and October 2026. All three add VAT to their fees, and Ireland's standard rate is 23%. We found no legal cap on delivery-app commission in Ireland.

Delivery-app commission in Ireland by platform

Just Eat30% (in its own example)14% when you deliver (in its own example)None, according to its FAQ
Uber Eats30% (33% on Uber One orders)13%€650 activation fee, once
DeliverooNot published. Reported at about 25–35%Not publishedDepends on your device option

Just Eat's Irish FAQ says its rate "varies based on your business needs", so check your agreement. Full breakdowns: Just Eat commission in Ireland, Uber Eats commission in Ireland and Deliveroo fees in Ireland.

Worked example

300 orders a month at €30

A Dublin takeaway does 300 orders a month at an average of €30: €9,000 in sales. Here is what each channel costs in a month and a year. VAT on the app fees is worked out at 23%.

Monthly and yearly cost of €9,000 of orders by channel
ChannelFeeVAT on fee (23%)Total a monthA year
Just Eat delivers (30%)€2,700€621€3,321€39,852
Just Eat, own couriers (14%)€1,260€289.80€1,549.80€18,597.60
Uber Eats, you deliver (13%)€1,170€269.10€1,439.10€17,269.20
Your own system (Menuthere Lite + Stripe standard EEA cards)US$17 plan + €210 card feesNo commission, so no VAT on commissionabout €210 + US$17about €2,520 + US$204 (or US$170 on yearly billing)

Stripe's standard rate for EEA cards is 1.5% + €0.25, so a €30 order costs €0.70. If you're VAT-registered you can usually reclaim the VAT on app fees, but the commission itself is gone.

Irish VAT

Set Ireland's VAT rates dish by dish

Since 1 July 2026, hot takeaway food and restaurant meals are at the 9% second reduced rate (13.5% until 30 June 2026). Cold takeaway food stays at 0%, and soft drinks, bottled water and alcohol stay at 23%. Revenue also says delivery services are standard-rated. Menuthere lets each dish carry its own rate, so one bill can mix them.

Irish VAT on a delivery order of €35.50, with prices including VAT
LinePrice (VAT included)VAT rateVAT inside the price
2 × chicken curry (hot)€29.009%€2.39
1.5 litre cola€3.5023%€0.65
Delivery fee€3.0023% (Revenue: delivery services)€0.56
Total€35.50€3.60

In Menuthere, set the store rate to 9%, mark dishes Tax Inclusive and give drinks a 23% rate (cold sandwiches and salads for takeaway, 0%). Menuthere doesn't add VAT to the delivery fee line, so set your delivery fee as a VAT-inclusive amount and ask your accountant how to record it. A combination meal deal (hot food with a soft drink at one price) has to be split between the two rates. See tax and VAT settings.

How it works

How Menuthere's online ordering system works

  1. 1

    Find your business on Google

Menuthere pulls your name, address and photos from your Google listing. Set the currency to EUR and the timezone to Dublin.

  2. 2

    Import your menu

Upload a photo or PDF and the AI reads in the dishes and prices. Sizes, add-ons and sold-out marking are built in. Moving from GloriaFood? Import that menu directly; it closes on 30 April 2027.

  3. 3

    Choose order types

Collection, delivery and dine-in table orders, all from one menu.

  4. 4

    Set up payments

Cash or pay on collection on Free. Your own Stripe account for card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay on Lite and above.

  5. 5

    Share your link

On your Google Business Profile, Instagram bio, flyers and receipts. Print the free QR codes for the counter and tables.

  6. 6

    Take orders

Each order rings on the partner app until someone accepts it, or switch on auto-accept. Tickets print to your kitchen printer.

Irish rules

Irish rules your online menu has to follow

Allergens in writing. Ireland is stricter than the UK here. S.I. No. 489 of 2014 says allergen information for food that isn't prepacked must be given in writing, in English (or in Irish and English), before the sale. For online and phone orders, the FSAI says you must give it before the order is placed and again at delivery, in writing at one of the two stages at least. On Menuthere, tag the 14 allergens on each dish on every plan, including Free, and customers see them when they open the dish. Add a printed allergen sheet to delivery bags too: make one with the allergen chart maker.

Prices and charges. The Retail Prices (Food in Catering Establishments) Display Order 1984 requires prices that include tax, and any service, cover or minimum charge must be stated with the prices. The CCPC says the final price must include taxes and charges, and that charging more than the displayed price is a misleading price indication.

Tips and service charges. Under the Payment of Wages (Amendment) (Tips and Gratuities) Act 2022, an employer must pass electronic tips and any service charge to staff, and since 1 December 2022 must show a tips notice on every website or app used for the service, as well as on the premises. If you switch on tips or a service charge in Menuthere, put your tips policy on your ordering page: the one-line announcement bar (Lite) or your legal pages can carry it.

No card surcharges. Since 13 January 2018, Irish businesses can't add a surcharge for paying by debit or credit card, under the EU payment services rules (S.I. No. 6 of 2018). Build card costs into your prices.

  • Allergens in writing, before the order and at delivery
  • Prices in euro, VAT included
  • Tips notice on your website or app
  • No card surcharges

Service charge

A service charge is taxed in Ireland: switch the tax on

Revenue's VAT guidance says a service charge that appears on the bill is part of the price of the meal and is taxed at the second reduced rate (9%). Voluntary tips that aren't on the bill are outside VAT.

Menuthere's optional service charge is a percentage of the food, shown at checkout as its own line that the customer can remove. In Ireland it starts untaxed, so open `Settings → Payments & tax → Tips & service charge` and switch on Charge tax on the service charge. Your store's rate (9%) is then added to it and shown on its own line on the bill. Tips customers add at checkout are never taxed. See tips and service charge.

Card payments

Taking card payments with Stripe in Ireland

Menuthere never touches your money. Stripe charges its own fee, with no setup or monthly fee on standard pricing, and Menuthere adds nothing on top. Currency conversion adds 2%, and a dispute costs €20.

Stripe Ireland card fees on a €30 order and on 300 orders a month

Standard EEA cards1.5% + €0.25€0.70€210.00

UK cards2.5% + €0.25€1.00€300.00

Most Irish customers pay with Irish-issued, standard EEA cards. Visitors from Northern Ireland and Great Britain pay the UK-card rate.

Questions owners ask

Answered, plainly.

It depends on your size and how long a contract you'll sign. For most independents, look for 0% commission, no long contract, card payments into your own account and written allergen information on the menu. Menuthere ticks those boxes and has a free plan. Square Online suits restaurants already on Square, and Flipdish suits chains that want POS, kiosks and apps from one supplier on a 12-month contract.

From free to €69 or more a month per site, and some providers also take a fee on every order. Menuthere is free for 50 orders a month and US$17 a month for unlimited orders. Stripe charges 1.5% + €0.25 per standard EEA card on top.

Since 1 July 2026, hot takeaway food is at the 9% second reduced rate (it was 13.5%). Cold takeaway food is 0%, and soft drinks, bottled water and alcohol are 23%. Revenue says delivery services are standard-rated at 23%.

Yes. In Ireland, allergen information for food that isn't prepacked must be in writing. For online and phone orders it must be given before the order is placed and again at delivery, in writing at one of those stages at least. Menuthere lets you tag the 14 allergens on each dish on every plan.

No. Surcharges for paying by debit or credit card have been banned since 13 January 2018. Build card costs into your prices.

Not with Menuthere. It takes 0% on every plan. Stripe charges its normal card fee.

Yes, if it appears on the bill. Revenue treats it as part of the price of the meal, taxed at 9%. In Menuthere, switch on Charge tax on the service charge. Voluntary tips that aren't on the bill are outside VAT.

Yes. Many owners keep the apps for new customers and use Menuthere for direct orders. Menuthere doesn't pull app orders into one screen.
