Set up tax
Step 1: Open Tax Settings
Go to Settings → Payments & tax and open the Tax Settings tab, then switch on Charge tax on orders. It adds the tax line at checkout and on bills.
In the dashboardSettingsPayments & taxTax Settings
Step 2: Enter your percentage and number
Fill in Tax percentage and Tax number. In India the number is your GST number. For VAT it is your registration number (TRN).
Step 3: Choose GST or VAT wording
Outside India you also see Call it VAT instead of GST. Switch it on if your country calls the tax VAT. Stores in the United Arab Emirates always show VAT. Press Save.
Step 4: Mark dishes whose price already includes tax
In the dish editor, switch on Tax Inclusive ("Price already includes GST/VAT") for those dishes. See Delivery prices and tax-inclusive prices.
How tax shows on the bill
| Dish price | What happens |
|---|---|
| Tax added on top | The tax is added to the total and shows as GST (or VAT). |
| Tax Inclusive | The price is not increased. The tax inside it is worked out and not added again. At checkout it shows as a row, GST (included) (or VAT (included)), so the customer can see the tax they are paying. The row is for information and is not added to the total. |
