GP calculator (UK)
The GP calculator works out a dish's gross profit the way UK kitchens mean it: on the price without VAT. Enter the ingredient cost and the menu price to get the GP %, or enter a target GP to get the menu price, rounded to a tidy ending. A dish table checks your whole menu.

Work out GP on one dish
Open the GP calculator. It is free, needs no sign-up and works on a phone.
Step 1: Pick what to work out
Under 1. Your dish choose Find GP, Find price or Max cost. Type the Ingredient cost per portion (£) and, for Find GP and Max cost, the Selling price (£). For Find price and Max cost type your Target GP %.
Step 2: Set the VAT
Under 2. VAT pick the VAT rate: 20% for hot takeaway food, hot drinks and anything eaten in, 0% for most cold takeaway food, or Not VAT-registered. Leave My prices include VAT on when your menu prices include VAT.
Step 3: Round the price
In Find price, use Round the price to end the price in .49 or .95 and similar. Up (protects GP) never rounds below the price for your target.
Step 4: Add packaging and wastage
Open Packaging and wastage to add a packaging cost per portion and a wastage allowance. Both are added to the ingredient cost.
Check your whole menu
Press Add this dish to my table, or Add a dish under Your menu's GP, and type each dish's VAT, cost and price. Add Sold a week to see your sales-weighted GP and your GP a week. Each dish shows On target, Close (up to 5 points under your target) or Below. Fill example menu puts back the page's four examples.
Under Print or save your GP sheet press Download PDF to print for an A4 sheet, Download CSV for Excel, or Copy as text.
