Card fees into menu prices (UK)
The UK card fee calculator is for cafés, takeaways and restaurants in the UK, where card surcharges for consumers are banned. Enter your menu prices, your card fee and how many sales are on card. It gives the smallest price rise that covers the fee, with VAT taken into account, plus a price list to print.

Work out your new prices
Open the UK card fee calculator. It is free, needs no sign-up and works on a phone.
Step 1: Add your menu prices
Under 1. Your menu prices type each item and its price as printed, VAT included, and pick its VAT rate: 20%, 5% or 0%. Five example items are there to start. Press Add item for more.
Step 2: Enter your card fee
Under 2. Your card fee choose Work it out from: My card fee or My monthly statement. With My card fee, press a card reader rate or type your Card fee and any Fixed fee per payment (then add your Average order value). With My monthly statement, type Total card fees last month and Total card sales last month. Then enter Sales paid by card.
Step 3: Pick VAT and rounding
Under 3. VAT and rounding choose VAT-registered or Not VAT-registered, and how to Round new prices: None, Up to 5p, Up to 10p or Up to 50p. Prices always round up. Add your Monthly card sales to see what card fees cost you a month.
Step 4: Read your new prices and print the list
The result shows Your prices go up by a percentage and the old and new price of each item with the change. A £4.20 latte at 20% VAT, 85% of sales on card and a 1.69% fee becomes £4.27, rounded up to £4.30. Open Check what you keep to see that you keep the same after fees and VAT. Under What goes on it add Your business name, then press Download PDF to print or Copy the new prices as text.
