Compare the cost
Open the own delivery cost calculator. It is free, needs no sign-up and works on a phone.
Step 1: Add your deliveries
Under 1. Your deliveries enter Deliveries a month and the Average distance to the customer in miles, one way. The calculator counts the drive back.
Step 2: Add what a driver costs
Under 2. Your own drivers set the Hourly wage, Payroll taxes on top, Deliveries per driver-hour, Paid back per mile, Insurance a month and Software a month. Each starts at a US figure named in its hint: the BLS median wage, 7.65% payroll taxes, the IRS mileage rate and a broker's median insurance premium.
Step 3: Set the courier fees
Under 3. Courier fees check DoorDash Drive, per delivery and Uber Direct, per delivery against a live quote. Share sent to Uber Direct on busy nights sets the mixed model, where your drivers take most orders and Uber couriers take the rest.
Step 4: Read the comparison
Cheapest at these numbers names the lowest-cost model. Below it each model shows its cost a month and a delivery, then the breakdown of Your own drivers, a month and When do your own drivers pay off?, with the break-even against each courier, or Not at these numbers with the deliveries per hour a driver would need.
