Do I need to tell my council if I start delivering food in the UK?
By the Menuthere editorial team · Last updated
Yes. UK food businesses, including delivery-only ones, must register with their local authority at least 28 days before trading, and tell it when they add a delivery service.
- Register your food business with your local council at least 28 days before you start.
- Online and delivery-only businesses must register too.
- If you already trade and start delivering, tell the council about the new delivery service.
- For distance selling, give allergen information before the customer buys and again at delivery, by sticker, enclosed menu or the driver telling them.
- The Food Standards Agency page for selling food for delivery lists the details.
