Payment gateways for restaurants in India: Razorpay, Cashfree and Easebuzz on Menuthere
Updated October 20, 2026
A Menuthere store in India takes online payments through its own Razorpay, Cashfree or Easebuzz account, so customers pay by UPI, card or netbanking at checkout and the money goes to the restaurant's account, not to Menuthere. Stores already set up with ICICI Orange Pay can use it too. One gateway is live at a time. Menuthere takes 0% commission and charges no setup fee for a gateway it already supports; each gateway charges its own fee per payment. Online payments start on the Lite plan; Cashfree is on Pro, where Menuthere sets it up with you.
In short
- Razorpay: your own account, connected with your API keys and a webhook. Lite.
- Cashfree: connected through Menuthere; you enter your merchant ID. Pro.
- Easebuzz: your merchant key and salt, plus one webhook row. Lite.
- ICICI Orange Pay: only for stores already set up on it.
- Cash always works. You choose online, cash or both separately for delivery, takeaway and dine-in.
Which gateway can an Indian restaurant connect?
| Gateway | How you connect | Plan | Payouts shown in Menuthere | Published fee (checked 20 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Razorpay | Key ID, Key secret and a webhook secret from your own account | Lite | Yes: Bank settlement card, Pending or Settled per payment | 2% platform fee on domestic payments, UPI included; 18% GST on the fee; ₹0 setup, ₹0 annual charge |
| Cashfree | Menuthere starts it with you; you enter the merchant ID | Pro | Yes: Bank settlement card | 1.95% plus taxes; zero setup fee (a festive offer was also running) |
| Easebuzz | Merchant key, salt and the Transaction Webhook | Lite | Takings only; check payouts in Easebuzz | Custom pricing, shared after you sign up |
| ICICI Orange Pay | Merchant ID and secret key from ICICI onboarding | Lite | Takings only; check with ICICI | Your ICICI terms |
Fees are the gateways' own published figures, not Menuthere's. They change, so check the gateway's pricing page before you sign up. See also how much Razorpay charges and Razorpay or Cashfree for a restaurant.
What a gateway costs on your orders: a worked example
A cloud kitchen takes 600 online orders a month at ₹450 each, ₹2,70,000 in all.
| Razorpay (2% + 18% GST on the fee) | Cashfree (1.95% + 18% GST on the fee) | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee on one ₹450 order | ₹9.00 + ₹1.62 GST = ₹10.62 | ₹8.78 + ₹1.58 GST = ₹10.36 |
| A month, 600 orders | ₹6,372 | ₹6,213 |
| Menuthere's cut | ₹0 | ₹0 |
The same ₹2,70,000 of food through a delivery app costs far more in commission. Compare with Zomato's and Swiggy's published rates.
How to connect Razorpay to Menuthere
- Create an API key in Razorpay. In Razorpay, go to Settings, API Keys and create a new key. You get a Key ID and a Key secret.
- Paste the keys into Menuthere. Open Settings, Payments & tax, Payment Methods, turn on Online payment, press Configure and choose Razorpay. Paste the Key ID, which starts with rzp_live_, and the Key secret.
- Add a webhook secret. Type any text as the Webhook secret, or press Generate. It only has to match the secret you enter in Razorpay.
- Add the webhook in Razorpay. In Razorpay open Settings, Webhooks and add a new webhook with the Webhook URL shown in Menuthere and the same secret. Under Active events, select payment captured and failed, and make sure the webhook is on.
- Save and turn on. Back in Menuthere press Save and turn on. Your Razorpay key shows Saved with its last four characters.
Why the webhook matters. Without the webhook secret, Razorpay's confirmation can't be checked on the server, so an order is only marked paid when the customer's browser returns to your store. If they close the tab first, that confirmation is lost. With Easebuzz, payments still complete without the webhook because Menuthere checks again within about two minutes; the webhook makes the order appear in seconds.
How payments work once a gateway is on
| What | How it works |
|---|---|
| Checkout | Customers see Pay online (cards, UPI and netbanking) and Cash on delivery or Pay at store, as you allow per order type. |
| Dine-in, pay after the meal | Turn on Ask payment after order complete. Guests order first, and after the order is completed they get a Pay now button for 1 hour. |
| Riders at the door (Pro) | Your own riders show nothing (cash only), a QR for your UPI ID, or a fresh QR for the order's exact amount, which needs Cashfree. |
| Settlements | Daily takings split into prepaid and cash. For Cashfree and Razorpay you also see which payments reached your bank: usually one to two working days. |
| Switching | Saving another gateway makes it live and stands the old one down. |
