National Pizza Day menu and deal templates for pizzerias

Updated October 20, 2026

National Pizza Day falls on February 9 each year: Tuesday, February 9, 2027, and Wednesday, February 9, 2028. It isn't a government holiday. National Day Calendar, the registry most "national day" lists draw on, lists it on February 9 and says its origin is still a mystery. For a pizzeria it's simply a reason to run one well-costed deal, ideally on orders that come to you directly rather than through a delivery app. Below are a deal menu, a slice-and-pie board, a counter order sheet and promo copy, plus the math on what the deal really earns.

Make a print-ready menu in the free menu makerCreate your free ordering page

Two dates to know: in 2027, February 9 is also Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday falls 47 days before Easter, which is March 28, 2027). And people searching "national pizza day" also find September 5, which National Day Calendar lists as National Cheese Pizza Day, so a second, smaller promotion fits early September.

Paste any of them into the printable menu maker for a US Letter PDF, or into Word or Google Docs. For a window poster, pick National Pizza Day in the festival poster maker.

1. Pizza Day deal menu

One deal, stated in one line, beats a list of five. Put the date and the code next to it.

National Pizza Day at [Your pizzeria] · Tuesday, February 9 Two 14" one-topping pies, $____ with code PIZZADAY (online orders, pickup or delivery, February 9 only)

Add a side: garlic knots (6) $____ · ____ salad $____ · 2-liter soda $____ Slice special in the shop: cheese slice $____ · pepperoni slice $____

Prices before sales tax. Delivery area and minimum order apply. Ask us about allergens.

2. Slice and pie board

14"8$____$____$____
18"8$____$____$____

Toppings: pepperoni · sausage · mushrooms · onions · green peppers · black olives · ____ · ____ Gluten-free crust available in 10" (prepared in a shared kitchen).

If you're part of a chain with 20 or more locations, this board also needs calories: see the US rules section below.

3. Counter order sheet

4. Promo copy

Email to your own list:

Subject: Tuesday is National Pizza Day: two pies for $____ On Tuesday, February 9, get two 14" one-topping pies for $____ when you order on our website with code PIZZADAY. Pickup or delivery from our own drivers. Order here: [your Menuthere link]

Pop-up banner: "National Pizza Day: two 14" pies for $____ with code PIZZADAY, Tue Feb 9 only." Announcement bar (under 100 characters): "Tue 2/9: two 14\" pies $____ with code PIZZADAY, online only" Social caption: "February 9 is National Pizza Day. Two pies, one code, order direct and skip the app fees."

A promo email needs an honest subject line, your postal address and a working opt-out (FTC CAN-SPAM guidance). WhatsApp isn't a channel for this deal in the US: Meta does not deliver marketing template messages to US (+1) phone numbers, so WhatsApp sends order updates (utility messages, about US$0.0034 each), not promotions. Use email for offers.

Worked example: what a Pizza Day deal really earns

These are example figures only. Plug in your own food cost and prices.

A 14" one-topping pie sells for $18.99 and costs $4.70 to make and box (dough, sauce, cheese, topping $4.10, box $0.60). The deal: 20% off an order of two pies with code PIZZADAY.

Two 14" pies ($37.98 list)Direct order with the codeSame order on a delivery app, no discount
Customer pays (before tax)$30.38$37.98
Discount−$7.60 (20%)—
Commission$0−$9.50 (DoorDash Plus, 25%)
Card processing−$1.18 (Stripe 2.9% + 30¢)included in commission
Food and boxes−$9.40−$9.40
You keep$19.80$19.08

Even with 20% off, the direct order leaves you $0.72 more than a full-price app order on a 25% tier, and you keep the customer's details for next time. On DoorDash Basic (15%) the app order would leave $22.88, so the deal only wins if it brings in customers who come back direct. Set a use limit so the cost can't run away: 150 uses × $7.60 caps the discount at $1,140. Check your own numbers in the menu price calculator, and see current US rates in delivery app commission in the USA.

US rules for pizza menus

  • Calories, if you're a chain. The FDA menu-labeling rule covers restaurants in a chain of 20 or more locations. For a pizza, 21 CFR 101.11 lets you declare calories for the whole pie ("pizza pie: 1600 cal") or per slice, as long as the menu also states the number of slices ("pizza pie: 200 cal/slice, 8 slices").
  • Toppings. When the menu lists toppings, the rule asks for calories for the basic pie and separately for each topping, for each size. Where a pizzeria uses less of each topping as more toppings are added, each topping is declared as if added to a one-topping pizza.
  • Temporary specials. Items on the menu for less than a total of 60 days in a calendar year are exempt, so a one-day Pizza Day special usually needs no calorie line. Independents with fewer than 20 locations aren't covered by the federal rule.
  • Sales tax. Show prices before tax and add it at checkout; whether delivery charges are taxed varies by state.

How to do it in Menuthere

  1. Put the pizza menu online (Free). Add each pie with sizes (10" / 14" / 18") and toppings as extras, or upload a photo or PDF of your menu; AI reads the dishes and prices for you to check. 0% commission on every plan.
  2. Create the code (Lite, US$17 a month). In discount codes, set 20% off, a minimum order, Start and end of February 9 to February 9, Days = Tuesday, a total use limit and one use per customer. See create a discount code and limits, days and validity. A code can't be limited to a time of day, so a "lunch only" Pizza Day deal isn't possible.
  3. Take payment online (Lite). Customers pay by card through Stripe into your own account; sales tax shows as "Sales tax".
  4. Tell people (Lite). Schedule a pop-up banner for February 1 to 9 and add the announcement bar line.
  5. Deliver with your own drivers (Pro, US$39 a month). The rider app runs on iOS and Android; customers get a live tracking link, and you assign each order with one tap (see the rider app). Compare per-delivery costs in the own delivery cost calculator and read in-house delivery for restaurants.

A pizzeria with its own Branded App can send app users a push notification on the morning of February 9. See pricing and the online ordering system for US restaurants.

Discount codes start on Lite, with a 7-day free trial (a card is needed to start; nothing is charged until the trial ends).

FAQs

When is National Pizza Day 2027?

National Pizza Day is on Tuesday, February 9, 2027, the same day as Mardi Gras. In 2028 it falls on Wednesday, February 9.

Is National Pizza Day an official holiday?

No. It isn't set by any law or proclamation. National Day Calendar lists it on February 9 and says its origin is unknown.

Why do some people say National Pizza Day is September 5?

National Day Calendar lists September 5 as National Cheese Pizza Day, a separate observance. The main National Pizza Day is February 9.

What is a good National Pizza Day deal for a pizzeria?

One simple deal on direct orders, such as 20% off two large pies with a code that runs on February 9 only, with a minimum order and a use limit. In our example it still leaves more per order than a full-price delivery-app order on a 25% commission tier.

Do pizzerias have to show calories per slice?

Only chains with 20 or more locations. Under the FDA rule they can show calories for the whole pie or per slice, as long as the menu also says how many slices the pie has.

Can I run the deal only at lunchtime?

Not with a Menuthere code. Codes can be limited to dates and days of the week, with a minimum order and use limits, but not to a time of day.
