QR code menu for restaurants and cafés in Indonesia
Updated October 19, 2026
A QR code menu lets guests scan the code on the table, see your menu with photos and rupiah prices, and send their order straight to the kitchen. Menuthere's digital menu and table QR codes are free, with up to 50 orders a month and 0% commission. In Indonesia, guests then pay the way they already do: by scanning your QRIS code or in cash at the counter. Menuthere doesn't take online payments for Indonesian stores, because Stripe is only in invite-only preview there.
In short
- Rupiah prices on the menu, with your own photos and categories.
- PBJT: Jakarta's restaurant tax on food and drink is 10%, paid by the customer, and it isn't VAT. Set your city's rate once.
- Pay by QRIS at the counter: Bank Indonesia requires QR payment providers to use QRIS. Guests order by table QR, then scan your QRIS sticker or pay cash.
- Halal: BPJPH says the halal obligation applies from 18 October 2026 with no postponement. Menuthere's halal mark per dish helps guests, but it isn't a certificate.
- Bahasa Indonesia: write your menu in Indonesian. The automatic language button adds languages such as Chinese and Japanese for visitors, but not Indonesian.
How a table QR order works in an Indonesian café
- A guest at meja 5 scans the code. Your menu opens with table 5 already set.
- They order two kopi susu and a nasi goreng. The order rings on your partner app and prints in the kitchen with the table number.
- They add an es teh later. It joins the same running order, marked as edited by the customer.
- At the end they walk to the kasir, scan your QRIS sticker, and you mark the order paid.
Guests don't download anything; the menu opens in the phone's browser. Turn on geo-lock so orders from a table QR can only be placed within 100 m to 1 km of your map pin, which stops orders from people who photographed the code. See stop orders from outside.
PBJT: the restaurant tax on the bill
Jakarta's regional revenue agency (Bapenda) says the PBJT rate on food and drink is 10%, that such food is not subject to VAT (PPN), and that PBJT is paid by the end consumer. PBJT is a regional tax, so check the rate your own city or regency sets.
In Menuthere, set Charge tax on orders to your PBJT rate under Settings → Payments & tax, and leave dish prices before tax so checkout adds it. Two limits to know:
- The tax line is labeled GST or VAT; there is no PBJT label yet.
- There is one rate per store.
See Tax: GST and VAT.
Worked example: lunch for two in Jakarta
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| 2 × nasi goreng at Rp35.000 | Rp70.000 |
| 2 × es teh manis at Rp8.000 | Rp16.000 |
| Subtotal | Rp86.000 |
| PBJT 10% (added at checkout) | Rp8.600 |
| Guest pays by QRIS at the counter | Rp94.600 |
| Menuthere commission | Rp0 |
Your QRIS provider's fee is set by your bank or payment provider, not by Menuthere.
Payments: QRIS, cash and e-wallets
| Payment | With a Menuthere QR menu | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| QRIS (scanned from e-wallet and mobile banking apps) | Guest scans your own QRIS sticker at the counter or table. Menuthere doesn't confirm the payment, so check your merchant app before marking it paid. | Free |
| Cash | Pay at the kasir; mark the order paid | Free |
| Online card or QRIS checkout inside Menuthere | Not available for Indonesian stores today | — |
Stripe lists Indonesia only as a preview country and asks businesses to request an invite. If you'd like Menuthere to add an Indonesian gateway, send a request from your dashboard. See no Stripe in your country.
Halal from 18 October 2026
BPJPH announced on 9 October 2026 that the halal obligation will run from 18 October 2026 with no postponement, and that it is drafting easier rules for micro and small businesses and imports. If you sell food and drink, check what applies to your business on BPJPH's site.
In Menuthere you can switch on a halal mark on each dish, on every plan, and tag allergens and calories. The mark is a label for your guests; it doesn't replace BPJPH certification, so only use it when you're certified. See allergens and nutrition.
Bahasa Indonesia, English, Chinese and Japanese
Most Indonesian guests read the menu in Indonesian, and tourist areas also need English. Menuthere's automatic language button (Lite) offers English, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Arabic, Hindi and others, but not Indonesian. So:
- Write the menu in Indonesian as the main text: "Nasi goreng kampung", "Es kopi susu gula aren".
- Add an English second name on each dish if you have foreign guests, on any plan.
- In Bali or other tourist areas, turn on the language button for Chinese and Japanese.
See second names and menu in several languages.
Same QR on GoFood, GrabFood and ShopeeFood bags
A sticker in each delivery bag ("Pesan langsung lain kali") moves regulars to your own link for pickup. On a Rp100.000 delivery order:
| App | Commission on Rp100.000 |
|---|---|
| GoFood, 20% standard + Rp1.000 per order | Rp21.000 |
| GrabFood, about 20–30% | Rp20.000–30.000 |
| ShopeeFood, about 15–25% | Rp15.000–25.000 |
| Your own Menuthere link (pickup, pay by QRIS) | Rp0 |
Rates are from our pages on GoFood, GrabFood and ShopeeFood in Indonesia. For takeaway and delivery from your own link, see the online ordering system for Indonesia.

FAQs
Is there a free QR code menu for restaurants in Indonesia?
Yes. Menuthere's Free plan includes a digital menu, table QR codes and up to 50 orders a month at 0% commission.
Can guests pay by QRIS from the QR menu?
Guests pay by scanning your own QRIS code at the counter or table. Menuthere doesn't process or confirm QRIS payments, so you mark the order paid after checking your merchant app.
How do I add PBJT to QR orders?
Set your PBJT rate as the store's tax rate, such as 10% in Jakarta, and checkout adds it to the bill. The line is labeled GST or VAT because there's no PBJT label yet.
Does the halal mark in Menuthere count as certification?
No. It's a label shown to guests on each dish. BPJPH says the halal obligation applies from 18 October 2026, so use the mark only if you're certified.
Can my QR menu switch into Bahasa Indonesia automatically?
No. Write your menu in Indonesian as the main text. The language button can add English, Chinese and Japanese for visitors.
Can I take online payments in Indonesia with Menuthere?
Not today. Stripe is only in invite-only preview in Indonesia, and Menuthere has no Indonesian gateway yet, so payment happens at the counter.
