Shopify for food businesses
Yes, you can sell food on Shopify. It is built for shipping products, so it suits jars, boxes and merch. For a menu people order from today, for pickup, delivery or at a table, a menu system needs fewer add-ons.

The short answer
Shopify is an online store. You list products, customers pay at a checkout, and you ship, deliver or hand the order over. It has local delivery and pickup in store built in, so a food business can take orders on it.
What it is not built around is a kitchen. A café's oat-milk latte with an extra shot, a pizza with half toppings, a breakfast menu that disappears at 11:30, a cake ordered for Saturday at 2 pm, a table QR: each of these is an app or a workaround on Shopify, and each app has its own monthly price.
So the honest answer depends on what you sell. If most of your orders are packed goods shipped across the country, Shopify is a strong choice. If most are meals collected, delivered or eaten today, a restaurant ordering system does it with less to stitch together. Many businesses use both.
What Shopify costs
Shopify sets its prices per country. These are the monthly prices on Shopify's own pricing pages on 20 October 2026, billed yearly, with the monthly-billing price in brackets.

Shopify also offers 3 days free, then a small monthly fee for the first 3 months. Prices are before tax. Check the pricing page for your own country before you decide: these figures change.
The fees on top
If you don't use Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee on every order: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, 0.2% on Plus. Your gateway's own fee comes on top.
Shopify Payments works in 41 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, the UAE, Mexico and most of the EU. It isn't offered in India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, Brazil or Egypt, so stores there pay the extra fee above.
Time slots, add-ons with prices, table QR ordering, kitchen tickets and loyalty mostly come from App Store apps, billed monthly. On each page below we price the apps that business type needs.
Pick your business
Each business hits a different wall. These pages go through the costs, the gaps and a worked monthly example for each one.
| Business | The question it answers | Where Shopify is strong |
|---|---|---|

| Cafés and coffee shops | How do I sell a latte with milk choices and an extra shot, ready in 10 minutes? | Coffee beans and subscriptions |
| Bakeries | How do customers order a cake for a date, with notice I control? | Cookie boxes and gift hampers shipped |
| Home bakers | Is a monthly plan worth it for 20 orders a month from Instagram? | Shelf-stable treats shipped where the law allows |
| Food trucks | How do people pre-order for pickup at today's spot? | Merch and sauces sold online |
| Bistros | Can guests book a table and order from a QR at it? | Wine club boxes, vouchers |
| Cloud kitchens | How do I run several brands from one kitchen without app commission? | Packaged spin-off products |
| Catering | How do I take big orders with notice, quotes and delivery? | Boxed lunches shipped regionally |
| Meal prep | How do I sell weekly plans with a cut-off day? | Subscriptions and shipped boxes |
Where Shopify is the better choice
You ship packaged food. Jars of sauce, spice blends, coffee beans, cookie tins and hampers go by courier to customers anywhere you can legally sell. Shopify's shipping, product pages and checkout are made for exactly that. Menuthere is not: it is for menus, pickup, delivery and dine-in, not parcels.
You have a large catalog. Hundreds of products with photos, collections, reviews and SEO pages are what a store platform does best.
You sell in many channels. Marketplaces, social shops and wholesale catalogs sit inside Shopify's plans.
Use both when you have both. Keep Shopify for shipped products and put an Order food button on it that opens your Menuthere ordering page for today's menu. Customers who want a box of cookies posted use Shopify; customers who want lunch use the menu.
