Uber Eats charges restaurants in South Africa 30% of the order when its couriers deliver (33% on orders from Uber One members), 14% when you deliver yourself and 14% on pickup. Card processing is included, and 15% VAT is added to the fee.

Card processing
Included in the commission. Uber Eats lists payment processing in every plan, with no separate card fee.
VAT on the commission
Yes. Uber Eats' South African terms say its fees exclude VAT and the restaurant pays VAT on top, at 15% in South Africa. A VAT-registered restaurant can usually deduct it as input tax.
Activation fee
Uber's South African terms provide for a one-time activation fee, set in your order form. The pricing page doesn't give the amount.
Ads
Optional and charged separately. When Uber delivers, it adds once-off ad credits worth R1,000 and matches your monthly ad spend up to R2,000.

Worth knowing
Competition Commission. Its 2023 inquiry into online platforms found that Uber Eats and Mr D charged independent restaurants much higher commissions than chains, and required Uber Eats to adopt a standard tiered commission structure for independents. It sets no cap on commission.
Uber Eats works out its percentage on the item price including VAT, so the commission is taken from the VAT-inclusive amount.
The single 30% rate is new in 2026. In April 2026 Uber's South African page listed three delivery plans: Light at 24%, Plus at 27% and Premium at 30%, with pickup at 20%, 14% and 10%.
