What should a restaurant's WhatsApp messages say?
Updated 30 September 2026
Keep each message short and specific: what is confirmed, what happens next and how to reach you. Order updates are utility messages; anything with an offer is marketing.
- Order updates should only be about the order. Adding a promo code turns the message into marketing.
- A template cannot start or end with a variable like {{1}}, and each variable needs a sample value when you submit.
- In the Business app, a greeting message goes out at a customer's first message, and when they message again after 14 days of inactivity.
- Save the replies you type most as quick replies (up to 50), so you can answer in one tap.
Order messages that send themselves
Menuthere sends order-status updates to customers on WhatsApp automatically, from your own number, so you don't type confirmations and delivery notes one by one. It submits the templates these messages need to Meta for you.
