Can I send a broadcast to more than 256 people?

Not in one broadcast list: each holds up to 256 contacts. You can make as many lists as you like, or use the WhatsApp Business API, which is built for larger sends.

• Make several lists and send to each. Only people who saved your number receive a broadcast list message.
• Paid “business broadcasts” can reach people who haven't saved your number. You pay per delivered message, and they aren't in every country yet.
• The API has no 256 cap. You can message anyone who opted in, up to a daily limit that starts at 250 people.
• Verifying your business lifts that limit to 2,000. It then grows automatically if quality stays high and you use at least half of it.
• Some countries also show a monthly broadcast limit in the app. It is rolling out gradually, so you may not see one.
