Official Meta Tech Provider
Menuthere is an official Meta Tech Provider. Your WhatsApp ordering, broadcasts and live order updates run on Meta's own WhatsApp Business Platform, the same one global brands rely on.
The checklist
Six things show up on the sites worth copying. Check each one when you open the twelve real examples below the list.
Real text, not a picture or a file. Google's structured-data guide asks for the menu as a URL and lists price range as a recommended detail.
In a Toast survey of 850 US adults, 66% preferred menus with photos. It is a vendor survey and covers the US only, so treat it as a hint, not a rule.
A button on the first screen that goes straight to ordering, not to a contact form. A visitor should never have to hunt for it.
Google wants the dine-in hours on your listing (takeout hours only if you have no dine-in). Keep the site and the listing the same.
Address, directions and a phone number. Google's guide recommends the telephone number and the location URL in a business's details.
Google indexes the mobile version of a site. Its "good" mark for loading is the main content in 2.5 seconds, a reply to a tap in under 200 milliseconds and little jumping around. It also lists HTTPS and no intrusive pop-ups.
A quick test
Do this on a phone, on mobile data and not on Wi-Fi. It is the same path your own customers take.
How long before you can read the menu? Count in seconds, not minutes.
Find the price of one dish without zooming in.
How many taps does it take to get the first item into the cart?
Is it obvious whether the place is open now?
A call button or a chat link is enough. If there is none, note it. If any step takes more than a few seconds, a hungry customer will leave. That is the list to fix on your own site.
By business type
The best site for a café is not the best site for a bakery. Look for these when you browse.
The menu in clear categories, with photos, sizes and add-ons. A table QR for dine-in, and an open or closed sign you can see at once. Menuthere supports sizes and add-ons on every plan. See online ordering for restaurants.
A short menu that is quick to reorder, pickup first, morning hours easy to see and good photos of the drinks. On Menuthere's Free plan a café takes takeaway, delivery and dine-in table QR orders, and marks an item out of stock when the milk runs out. See online ordering for cafés and the guide how to set up online ordering for a café.
Items that sell out, cake sizes listed as sizes, and orders for a later day. Menuthere has sizes and add-ons on every plan, an out-of-stock switch, and scheduled orders and pre-orders on Lite. See online ordering for bakeries.
With no dining room, the website is the shop. Show delivery areas (Menuthere lets Lite stores draw them on a map), clear hours, and where the truck is today in the description. See cloud kitchens and food trucks.
Common mistakes
Most of these are easy to fix in an afternoon. Each row names its source, so you can check it.
| Mistake | Why it hurts | Do this instead | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| A PDF as your menu | It has to be pinched and zoomed on a phone, and you re-upload the whole file to change one price. Squarespace says embedded PDFs "aren't always as SEO-friendly as text directly on the page". | Type the menu as items with a name, price and photo. Keep a PDF only as a print copy. See digital menu vs PDF. | Squarespace Help, Menu blocks |
| A menu that is only a photo | It cannot be searched or read aloud by a screen reader, and prices cannot be updated in one place. | Type the items. Google Business Profile can turn a menu photo or PDF into typed items, so use that to save time. | Google Business Profile Help, menu editor |
| A "popular items" excerpt as your menu on Google | Google's rule is that a restaurant's menu must list the complete set of food and drink. | Put the full menu on your site and link that page from your Business Profile. | Google Business Profile guidelines |
| A menu link on your Google profile that goes to a marketplace | Google says menu URLs can't be direct links to third-party ordering or delivery services. | Point the menu link at your own menu page. Put ordering links in the ordering section, your own link first. | Google Business Profile guidelines and link limits |
| Hours that differ between the site and your Google listing | Customers trust neither, and Google wants the dine-in hours on the listing. | Keep one set of hours and edit it in one place. | Google Business Profile guidelines |
| A heavy homepage with autoplay video and huge photos | It can be slow on a phone and miss Google's 2.5 second load mark. | Compress the photos and lead with the menu and the order button. | Google Search Central, Core Web Vitals |
| Pop-ups over the menu, such as newsletter or app banners | Google lists intrusive interstitials as a page-experience problem. | Keep the first screen clean: the menu and the order button. | Google Search Central, page experience |
| A layout built for desktop only | Google indexes the mobile version of your site. | Design for the phone first, then check it on a laptop. | Google Search Central, mobile-first indexing |
The Google menu-link rule is about the menu link on your Google profile. You can still list marketplace links as ordering links.
Being found
A great site that nobody finds is a poster in a drawer. Claim and verify your Google Business Profile, then add your website and your menu link to it. The full walkthrough is in the guides, linked below.
Be realistic about the result. Google says there are no secrets that put a site first, and changes can take from a few hours to several months. It also says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
Get yours
