Is WhatsApp marketing allowed under India's DPDP Act and Saudi and UAE data law?
Updated 30 September 2026
WhatsApp allows marketing only to customers who have opted in, and the opt-in must follow local law. What India's DPDP Act and the Saudi and UAE laws require is not covered here; ask a local adviser.
- Opt-in is required before you message people on WhatsApp. It can be general, not only for WhatsApp, as long as it follows local laws.
- A valid opt-in clearly says the person agrees to messages from your business and names the business.
- Ways to collect it: SMS, your website, a phone (IVR) flow, or in person or on paper. You choose the method.
- Do not assume a first message is opt-in. The policy does not list it as permission for later promotions.
- Opt-outs and privacy: respect every request to opt out, and secure the notices and consents you need, including a published privacy policy.
Decide exactly who you message and when
Menuthere keeps your customers in one dashboard and sends broadcasts and comeback messages from your own WhatsApp number, so you decide who is messaged and when.
