Why do WhatsApp Business accounts get banned?
Updated 30 September 2026
For spam and policy breaks: messaging people who didn't opt in, unauthorized bulk or automated sending, selling banned goods such as alcohol or tobacco, or many customer blocks and reports.
- Unauthorized bulk or automated sending, such as third-party bulk-sender tools on the free app, breaks WhatsApp's terms. Large sends belong on the API.
- You may only contact people who gave you their number and agreed to hear from you.
- Customers can block or report you. Enough of that limits how many messages you can send, or removes your access.
- Selling or promoting banned goods such as alcohol, tobacco or drugs is a violation, even with a local licence.
- On the API, repeat violations escalate: warning, 1 or 3 day template block, 5, 7 or 30 day send block, account lock, then permanent removal.
Keep your orders outside one WhatsApp account
Customers order on your own Menuthere website, with WhatsApp as the chat, so your orders don't sit in a single WhatsApp account. Automatic and bulk messages go through the WhatsApp Business API on your own number.
