For Malaysian restaurants
Take orders on your own link, table QR and WhatsApp, not only through a delivery app that reportedly keeps 20% to 35% of each order. Menuthere takes 0% commission, has a free plan and takes cards through Stripe from Lite.
Free plan: 50 orders a month and 0% commission on every plan.

The short answer
An online ordering system is your own ordering page plus a dashboard. Customers order takeaway, delivery or dine-in from a link or a table QR on their phone. You keep the money and the customer details. The menu opens in the phone's browser, so nobody downloads an app.
GrabFood, foodpanda and ShopeeFood charge a commission on every order they send you. Your own system charges none on Menuthere. A card payment costs only the processor's fee. Cash and pay-on-pickup orders cost nothing.
What the apps take
Only ShopeeFood publishes a rate. Worked example, arithmetic only: 300 orders a month at RM40 is RM12,000 of sales. ShopeeFood's 30% is RM3,600, plus RM288 SST on that fee, RM3,888. At 25% (the low end of Grab's reported range) it is RM3,000, and at 28% (the middle of foodpanda's) RM3,360. On your own page, if every order paid by domestic card through Stripe, the card fee is RM2.20 an order, RM660 a month. Menuthere's commission is RM0.
| App | Commission | Published or approximate | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| ShopeeFood | 30% of each order, covering delivery, marketing and the platform | Published by ShopeeFood | 8% SST on the fee since 1 March 2024. On RM100, that is RM30 commission + RM2.40 SST. Registration is free with no subscription. Payouts D+1, typically 1 to 3 working days. See ShopeeFood Malaysia. |
| GrabFood | About 25% to 30%. 30% is the rate most often quoted. | Not published. Grab says only that service fees apply. Reported by Eats365 (24 June 2026) and MenuForma (14 June 2026). | Payout in 1 working day to a Maybank account, 2 to 3 to other banks. Sign-up asks for an SSM company profile, the director's IC and a bank statement header. See GrabFood Malaysia. |
| foodpanda | About 20% to 35% | Not published. The exact rate is shown at registration. Reported by Eats365 (24 June 2026) and Slant (2023). | Promotions and marketing come on top. Samenta said in January 2024 that, with promotions and marketing fees, delivery apps could take as much as 60% of a sale. See foodpanda Malaysia. |
An app's commission also buys delivery, riders and customers who do not know you yet. Your own orders come from customers you already have, which is why most owners run both. Delivering yourself costs a rider. At 300 orders a month the free plan's 50-order cap is passed, so you would need Lite (US$9). Card mix differs in real life, and cash orders carry no fee. This is an illustration, not a saving you should expect. Sources and read dates are listed below. Not sure which to keep? Read the GrabFood, foodpanda and ShopeeFood pages.
Orders you take yourself
Customers do not install anything. Put the link in your Instagram bio, your Google Business profile and your WhatsApp. If you are looking for a food ordering app of your own, this works in the phone browser.
An ordering website on a Menuthere link, and your own domain from Lite. Print the QR codes for the counter, the window and the menu board.
Customers choose takeaway and pay on pickup, on every plan. Pre-orders and scheduled orders, including table slot booking, are on Lite.
Customers type their address. Set a radius, fees and minimums on the free plan. Lite adds fees by distance and delivery areas drawn on a map. Pro adds your own riders app with live tracking. Menuthere does not book Lalamove, Grab Express or any other courier for you.
A QR code for each table. A dashboard setting can check the diner is at the restaurant before an order goes through, and a second order from the same table joins the open bill. See table ordering.
Orders ring on the partner app (Android and iPhone) until you accept them, or you can set auto-accept. Print the kitchen ticket and bill from the dashboard. Staff logins are unlimited. Menuthere's own basic POS is an add-on.
Sizes, variants and add-ons are on every plan: teh tarik less sweet, extra egg, set meals. Import a menu from a photo, PDF, Instagram or Google link, and mark items out of stock.
In its 2018 Internet Users Survey, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission found WhatsApp the most preferred communication app, with 98.1% of internet users owning an account. That survey is old, but it is a reason to keep WhatsApp in your plan. A chat is not an order system, though: sizes, add-ons and totals get typed by hand.
Customers can chat with you on WhatsApp, and you get a copy of each order on your number. The order itself is placed on your menu page, so prices, sizes and add-ons arrive complete.
WhatsApp Business API on your own number. Customers send "Hi" and get an Order Now button that opens the menu already signed in. You also get automatic order-status updates, broadcasts, comeback messages, your own WhatsApp bot and a missed-order alert. Menuthere submits the WhatsApp templates these messages need to Meta for you.
Meta bills its per-message fee to your own WhatsApp account, and its rate card lists Malaysia in ringgit. Menuthere takes no cut. On Meta's rate card from 1 October 2026, a marketing message is RM0.3467 and a utility, authentication or service message is RM0.0564. Work out your own order flow with the WhatsApp cost calculator.
Getting paid
Malaysia is a country where Stripe opens accounts. From Lite you connect your own Stripe account at no extra Menuthere cost. Stripe's hosted Checkout page takes the payment and the money settles from Stripe to your bank. Pick ringgit (RM) in your store settings. On the free plan you take cash, pay on pickup, your own payment link or bank details.
| Method | Stripe Malaysia rate | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic card | 3% + RM1.00 per successful transaction | Add 1% for international cards and 2% if currency conversion is needed. No setup or monthly fee. |
| FPX (online banking) | 3% + RM1.00 | Stripe lists FPX as supported with Checkout for Malaysian businesses. |
| GrabPay | 3% | Stripe lists GrabPay as supported with Checkout for Malaysian businesses. |
| Dispute | RM90.00 | Charged when a dispute is received or countered. |
| Payout to your bank | Initial settlement: 7 calendar days for Malaysia | Stripe's docs list no default timing for Malaysia beyond that. GrabFood pays in 1 to 3 working days and ShopeeFood on D+1. |
Menuthere does not fix a list of payment methods in Checkout, so customers see what you switch on in your own Stripe settings. Menuthere takes 0% and adds no per-order fee. DuitNow QR, Touch 'n Go eWallet and Boost are not promised. Razorpay, Easebuzz, Cashfree and OrangePG are for India only.
Malaysian rules
General information, not legal or tax advice. Check with Customs, the halal authority or your accountant for your own business.
Customs' service-tax FAQ puts food and beverage at 6%, while most taxable services moved to 8% on 1 March 2024. It gives an example where a cafeteria's food service is taxable only above RM1,500,000 in sales. The apps' commission is a different service: ShopeeFood adds 8% SST to its fee. Menuthere has a tax line (percentage and tax number) for checkout and bills. It is labelled GST or VAT, not SST, and Menuthere does not file tax for you.
The Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011 bars halal descriptions or logos without certification. Menuthere has no halal tag or certificate field. A certified restaurant writes its certification in the dish description or store details. An uncertified one does not use the word.
Menu text is shown exactly as you write it, in any language. The customer language switcher (Lite) offers 13 languages, including English and Chinese (Simplified), but not Bahasa Malaysia. Write dish names in Bahasa Malaysia or English yourself. Menuthere's own dashboard is not offered in Malay.
